It's becoming clearer with each post that you do not understand that the US has many interests tied to the middle east.
1. Oil
2. Protecting a country that the UN stole from it's rightful owners
3. Wiping out Terrorists who threaten the US
4. ???

Most Veterans join their military branches because for whatever reason they feel an obligation to do their duty. They don't join to become a killer or to be killed. Once inducted a lot of them become one or the other, some both. Either way they pay a terrible price. They don't volunteer to go to Iraq, they are ordered to go. They follow orders with the same sense of duty that compelled them to join. They don't ask for anything from you but respect. They do it for the right reasons even when our politicians are motivated for less noble reasons. You need to walk a mile in combat boots before you ask anyone how they see a vet. What have you done for the rest of us.

It's more than just following orders butch. Soldiers are trained to do everything as a team, there is no individuality. So while we may have deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan under orders, many of our actions there were to protect the team from dangers once we were there.

If you don't like where the troops are being sent, take it up with an elected official. Everyone takes an oath to follow the orders of the President and the officers appointed over them. Anyone that joins the military in these times does so knowing they are going probably put ordnance on target. I hold the young men and women that do so in high regard.

how can we say they are defending our freedoms when they are serving in the Middle East?
You can't. Veterans are people who served and are out. The people you're talking about are active service members. Since you don't even know enough about it to talk shite about the right group of people, I'll just assume that your significant other held some soldier's dick in her mouth and you just found out about it. I'd disapprove of the soldier's actions but in this case....I hope I was that soldier.
