I watch both I also watch tna/impact on axs tv
I use to attend all sorts of local indie promotions down here in bama there was one in the irondale area called Wrestle Birmingham that had mostly legends Adrian Street, Bullet Bob Armstrong. Brad Armstrong, Scott Armstrong, Road Dogg, Action Mike Jackson, Dennis Condrey, Robert Fuller, Jimmy Golden etc
one of the most memorable ones I attended was in 2006 in Anniston, Alabama I bought a Greg The Hammer Valentine figure, Greg signed it himself , there was a double main event the first main event saw Lord Humongous squash a local jobber, and the second saw Lex Luger vs Buff Bagwell

I haven't watched it for years, but I remember it from when I was a kid. I remember Randy Savage got his start locally, or at least wrestled for a time locally with his brother.
You had to be mildly crazy to do that, even if it was all fake.

Alabama is a "lost" treasure trove of classic wrestling. Everyone remembers the promotions next to it... Georgia, Mid-South, Memphis... but hardly anyone remembers that there was a major promotion centered in the state.
The Gulch/Fuller family ran the state off and on for decades with success and Birmingham used to be part of the diamond of cities that made up the Tennessee territory with Memphis, Knoxville, and Louisville. When Ron Fuller pulled out of Nashville he resettled his promotion in Alabama and ran it with great success until the wrestling crash of the late 80s killed off the business like it did to every other territory.
As for modern wrestling... I just can't get into it. You are far more likely to catch me on Youtube watching Giant Baba and Fritz von Erich wrestle in the 1970s.

WWE is at the point of being unwatchable.
I'm still actively rooting for AEW but their format needs work.

Jim Cornette is just finishing up a three week watch and review of RAW so I decided to watch along. I made it part way through one episode and gave up. I dozed off for a few minutes during one segment.
I will put it this way. Back in the day I used to watch an outlaw mud show promotion based in Mississippi featuring the legendary Tupelo Express (one of whom also worked as a janitor at the High School I think). I could make it through their shows. I can't make it through the WWE shows now.

AEW's roster is bad. There's like 4 guys you could buy as legitimate main event stars, a couple solid tag teams, then everyone else.
Really makes you wish you wish TNA circa 2009-2013 had the kind of backing AEW does.

my uncle said he attended a show in Montgomery back in the day and one of the wrestlers at the show that night was
"Burrhead Jones" during the match Jones was knocked out of the ring and onto the floor and that one of the fans sitting at ringside picked jones up and tossed him back into the ring
another favorite local indie show here in alabama I remember attending was in 2007 there were four matches on the card that night that I loved
Exotic Adrian Street Vs Hustler Rip Rogers
Action Mike Jackson Vs WCW Scream Queen Daffney
Wildfire Johnny Rich Vs Bullet Bob Armstrong
James Storm Vs Jake The Snake Roberts
I actually did attend two more indie shows in 2011, but neither were worth remembering
I also saw Sensational Sherri at a local indie show in Graysville, Alabama during November of 06 her health was already deteoriating at the time I remember thinking she probably wont be around much longer then the following summer of 07 I remember reading about her death right before or right after the benoit tragedy

Grew up in the NWA in Charlotte and loved watching UWF/MidSouth and the Florida territory. Later discovered ECW but grew out of it by the early 2000s. I’ll occasionally watch AEW but WWE is terrible these days. I’ll watch old Memphis rasslin on YouTube some nights.

I keep meaning to buy the Mid-Atlantic tapes of the old Charlotte territory. Such a great place for wrestling.

So he changed his name from Wildfire Tommy Rich to Johnny?

The business sucks now. WWE is so bland and scripted while AEW is comedy wrestling with vanilla midgets.

Some good stuff on YouTube also. There’s a great weekly podcast that goes over an episode every week.
The Mid-Atlantic Championship Podcast. Last week was March 6,1982. Piper was still there. It’s pure Gold.

Scott Hall threatened to slap me in the face in Little Rock back in the day. That was the coolest moment ever.

Supposedly Little Rock was a tough town back in the day for wrestlers. I can see why Jarrett never tried to encroach there even though he was running Eastern Arkansas. Well, that and the fact that Jerry Jarrett and Bill Watts were good buddies.
For a guy who fought a lot of promotional wars Jerry Jarrett was good at sharing a state with other promoters. He shared Arkansas and Mississippi with Watts, Tennessee with Ron Fuller, and Indiana with Dick the Bruiser.
