The lakers are not a good team to use when talking about how to defend a superstar team. They had something nobody else did.

Matchups man. So key to winning in the playoffs.
Word.
That's why the games and playoff series out west are so much more intriguing. Even the best teams don't have matchup advantages across the board. Makes for better basketball.

but thats how we played defense. we wouldnt let iverson, reggie, dwight, any of the big 3 in 2010 beat us. we made the rest of the team step up. of course we lost a few games when they did, but we would win the series

People thought LA beat you on offense but it was Shaquille and ability to move their best defender out of position and if he got beat Shaq would clean it up.

Exact reason the last 2 DPOY have been Gasol and Chandler. They would shut down the paint whenever someone would get beat.

Yup. And everyone could shoot with near-impunity.

Extremely underrated fact about Kobe has always been how good of a perimeter defender he is.
Edit; I remember watching a bunch of stuff leading up to the 08 Olympics where Coach K would not stop talking about Kobe's defense and how it raised the level of defense played by the whole team.

theres a reason hes basically been an all nba defensive team for basically his whole career. yet no one wants to talk about that

But you don't have Shaq until 25 years from now.
Miami beats you by moving LeBron and putting Battier on the shooter, like LA.
They're taking away rest of team and if the main guy beats them so be it.

Defense is never as sexy as offense to the lay person.
That's why the Spurs got the "boring" label slapped on them so firmly over a decade ago.

i would gladly put our 2000 team up against ANY nba team since the 96 bulls

The 96 Bulls team wasn't as good as the 93 Bulls I don't think.
The first set of three peat did more things with more people.

93 bulls were the best of the bull championship teams. but id put the 2000 laker team against the 97 and 98 teams and every single team since
first set of 3 peats also beat better teams

Don't I know it

You know Spurs fans LOVE the way y'all play the game, though. That WCF was the most intense series we had (including the Finals, IMO).
Looking forward to and dreading playing y'all again, and that's a good thing

What is crazy is how ridiculous the win streak by the Heat was this past year, but I still feel like there are a lot championship teams in the past 20 years that could've easily handled this past years Heat.

The team that never gets credit for being great are the 90-93 Blazers.
They were basically Lakers of 2000 without the names.
The Heat would've beat the Rockets, Celtics, Spurs that beat NJN, pistons, and last Laker champ team.

the entire 90s the blazers were a consistently good team. they just ran into the bad boy pistons, the last magic led laker team, MJ in 92, and a very good suns team in 93. then when they finally got their shite back, they had to run into the kobe/shaq lakers
