Seriously what? Often times on this site and TD folks only refer to southern Louisiana and the crime and poverty of urban areas. That’s oviously a huge issue and not to be looked over. But my point is that there are plenty of back country, arse backwards poor white folks in other parts of Louisiana that contribute to the shittiness that has become Louisiana. I know this firsthand. Many of them are my family members. I have family from Metairie to Shreveport and everything in between.
If you’re upset I referred to “sunset towns” then I suggest you look at recent history. My grandparents hometown was considered a sunset town until the 90s. And in many aspects, it still is.

I wasn't under the impression that the demographics of any region of La. would lean toward sunset laws.
I won't argue any of your knowledge, It's firsthand and frankly it's all too familiar. Sunset laws just seem farther north. Granted, sunset laws aren't something I study
I'm a long, long way from "upset"
I just asked. Which town should I research?

I'm pretty sure he means "don't let the sunset on you in CITY NAME" towns, named after the signs people would post to African Americans in the 60s up through even the 80s in parts of the more white South (Cullman, AL was one of these and had a hand painted sign until about 1990).

Oh ok so you were being genuine. Well, I can’t speak for the current laws or even 50 years ago. I know segregation in many of these small towns was violently enforced for a extended period of time. My grandma tells a story of a black man dying on the side of the highway after a car crash because no one would stop to help him. This was in the 80s. Pretty horrible stuff. Plenty of other stories related to small town politics/blatant racism.
But that’s a tangent I didn’t mean to go on. My point is that the poor and uneducated whites of Louisiana are a huge issue as well. South Louisiana urban crime is just a part of the problem.

You are correct. Although some of these towns did incorporate sunset laws to some extent. And many of the local politicians ran on the “I won’t let black people live here, vote for me” platform. And won.

IMO this list could be much longer. I have family from Vernon Parish, and this is the parish my grandmother has told stories about.

Holy shite, man. I just did a quick Google search and now I'm going down the rabbit hole. I grew up in a MS delta town. I know that exists, but my hometown and the surrounding areas were majority African American. Those old laws wouldn't sit very well.
Did not know western La was so...…..backwards. A couple of places in central La listed.
I learned a lot about La due to the BP lawsuits. Soooooo many complaints from people who wanted to be compensated but couldn't produce tax returns to prove what they were entitled to. It was sad

Yea, man. I went on an internet bender after hearing some stories a few years back. Not great stuff...
Maybe this is for another thread, but curious as to which laws you found.

I can imagine how it would look with NE and N Central Arkansas taken out. Like Shangri-freaking-la.
I spent the past 3 days in and on the river around Yellville. Holy Dogpatch. Beautiful land. Scary people

Hope not, this is good stuff. I mean, it's clearly not good, but it's stuff a lot of folks who grew up in the Black Belt regions don't really know about due to the racial makeup of towns.
Always good to know everything that happened.

A great way to define the state when leaving central and NW Arkansas. There are some great locations around our lakes/rivers but places I'm very happy to just stay for a weekend and head back home.

The most fascinating thing to me is how long it lasted. Again, fascinating in a terrifying and awful way, but fascinating nonetheless.
