I am excited for the gold cup. We should be able to run rough shot over everyone and then lay a good beat down on the home depot.

I think Jurgy can get us to a good technical level by the next world cup. We saw good things during the qualifying run and we were playing the best attacking ball I have ever seen from our side. That was scaled back by the lose of Jozy and the step up in talent we faced but we still saw sparks. I think a Yedlin and Green counter attack will be a nasty thing come four years from now.

Also can't state enough about how exciting it was to see us score goals that were things of beauty.

Lastly I gave run DMB a lot of shite when he played bad but the man stepped up and looked great yesterday

I wish it were possible to fix the technical ability in four years but that's a much longer term fix. It requires proper youth acadamies. We're starting to lay that foundation but the fruits of that are likely ten plus years away.

The counter game requires better midfielders but boy do we have some athletes on the edges Yedlin likely ends up a winger in 4 years. Defensive liability with position but he can straight fly. That aside, we're building a more possession based mindset. Learning to counter by passing and working the fast break. Not punt it deep and hope we get to it first.

I can't wait for the Gold Cup.

Also, do you EPL bro?

I think we can do enough with the athletes Jurgy can find to make it serviceable. We wont be the germans until ten years down the road but we can come up with some kind of blended american play to cover our weak spots.

i love seeing this. Green, Yedlin, and Fabian all on the field at the same time will be exciting to watch.

I usually watch the matches when they are on but haven't gotten into it like i do for the USMNT. However, I will probably start watching more EPL and maybe pick up a team. Also might watch some more of the MLS as it improves

The USSF and USYSA finally figured out years ago our system was very flawed for developing players in this country. Big youth clubs focus on winning and not development. When they do not win they poach other players. They also force positional play at way to early age in this country to win in the short term and not focus on long term by developing young players technically.

With the rise of the academies we are starting to identify players at an early age and develop them long term. USSF determined prior that the elite player at 17 was in their lost years with the current club system. Even state ODP levels have become a joke for the most part and way to much saturation with state leagues, regional leagues, super Y, and whatever else there is throughout the 4 regions of youth soccer in the country. It seems their approach with the academies is starting to pay off and we are seeing that result in the youth that showed up for the Cup.

In regards to Donovan he would not of made a difference. I am glad that Klinsmann stood his ground and said the he was here to coach the US team to win not to promote the stars of the MLS. That political BS has hinder the USNT for years and what set back the women's team trying to generate buzz for years for over aged, past their prime players to try and make their league work.

What I saw is we are moving in the right direction finally and it should be fun to watch the US over the next 4 years.

I've gotten back to my soccer roots and I'm rolling with Leeds United. I suppose I have a stronger connection to Wednesday because I caught a match at Hillsborough, but Leeds is the team you think of when you think Yorkshire.

To think nearly a decade ago Leeds was making a deep run in the Champions League but now are stuck in the second teir.

I'm actually playing 13.

FIFA 14 is cool online but play against the computer is nothing but frustration. Your players are incredibly stupid at making runs and the computer jumps to God mode far too easily.

Duke's infallible Quarterfinal Picks:

Colombia over Brazil
France over Germany
Dutch over Ticos
Argentina over Belgium

C'mon Colombia...prove me a genius.

they make ok runs on 14. trying to complete a cross or a header is a bitch. Also the computer does some pretty stupid things when it has a wide open chance at goal

I could see all four happen. Brazil just is not disciplined enough for me and I like the way Columbia moves the ball around. They are dangerous from multiple point of attacks. France might be one of the few teams that can physically handle Germany and their style of play. I am still in awe CR made it this far but they really have not matched up with the any of the big boys yet and Messi gives the advantage over Belgium.

I like the German team overall because when they are on I am not sure someone can beat them but they have not been consistent the whole time. Columbia I would love to win it all plus one of my favorite players(El Pibe) played for Columbia. Who is now my 5 year old daughters favorite player when I play old games or show videos with him in it. Even though I think she just likes him because of his hair.

Either way should be 4 very entertaining games.

I agree with Duke for the most part. I'm hoping for an upset and dream run from the Ticos though.

Apparently Mexicans hate them.

That's enough for me.

Also, I remember we were talking about Neur, the German goalie going buckwild all over the field.
