In 50 years there are going to be a bunch of nurses in old folks homes having to explain to trannies who now have Alzheimer's where their junk went on a daily basis.

When I was in college I would swear it was taught that gender identity disorder was a mental illness, and because no medications were reliably effective and psychotherapy was only marginally so, the recommended course of action was to essentially "pretend" that the patient was expressing normal personality traits, because the stress of any alternative form of care was often too overwhelming and detrimental.
At some point we seemed to have forgotten that all of this was a pretend game that health providers were playing just to keep these disorders in check, we've now carefully changed names of the conditions and removed their old descriptions from the reference manuals, and have gone straight out of fantasy land into full-bore reality.
Am I the crazy one for remembering it this way? Are we still supposed to be pretending? Or did we just forget that these people are literally insane?

It was until a few years ago. Then it was changed because of politics, not because of anything scientific.
It's like giving an anorexic person liposuction.

We all know that June is when things start to really get HOT.

Paperwasp: The medical and surgical management of Gender Dysphoria was studied in the 1960's and 70's, most notably at Johns Hopkins. It was abandoned because the psychological outcomes were horrendous. The conclusion was that the mental disorder could not be cured by altering ones physical appearance, or even hormonal status. In fact, psychological outcomes were generally worse in those who underwent medical and/or surgical management
