That's a very dangerous, high stakes job. Haven't you ever seen Men at Work?

If the gun was accidentally discharged, then yeah that was a terrible accident. However if she meant to shoot him then this is a bad look since they guy barley had time to react before the gun went off.

It's obvious by the way they entered the house that they knew they were entering a hostile situation. They also did the right thing by announcing themeselves once they entered the house.

However she should've just told the guy to freeze and come out of the mattress with his hands up. If he puts his hands down or even looks like he was going for a hidden weapon then by all means shoot, but at least give the guy a chance to surrender peacefully.

They did when they announced themselves 800 times.

Also as others have said, this result came from her finger being on the trigger and being startled. It should be drilled into ANYONE who owns a firearm that your finger stays off the trigger until you're ready to fire. It shouldn't even be in the trigger well.

As a police officer, this advice will likely get you killed. When I watched this a couple of days ago, from the camera angle you could tell he was behind the mattress, but not really what he was doing. I don't think she meant to shoot, but she needed to be ready to shoot.

That's fair. I'm not a police officer so I can't argue that.

And like I said they did the right thing.

I agree with this as well. If she truly misfired or it was discharged then yeah terrible accident. If she shot because she was started then that's not a bad look. You're put in a tense situation because you can keep your composure but are willing to protect yourself and others with a split second's notice. If you can't handle the pressure then perhaps you shouldn't be on patrols like this, especially since the city of Louisville is already plagued with a terrible drug problem.

Bull mother fricking shite!!!!!!!! The finger off the trigger until you intend to fire has been HAMMERED into hundreds of thousand Marines and it works. Been in plenty of real world shoot-don't shoot scenarios and building/city block clearings to back this one up. If you can't keep your finger off the trigger and react within milliseconds then you are absolutely are poorly trained, a hazard to your unit and shouldn't be packing.

It may blow your mind that cops might be trained differently than marines

To actually be safer than Marines? The same LE agencies that use the same 4 safety rules on a range that Marines use? Trust me, been much more "tense" situations on 3 different continents than most cops will ever imagine seeing and not once did we preach "put your finger on the trigger to save that millisecond"....especially in room clearing situations in a 4 man stack. Trust me, you buddy in front of you really wouldn't appreciate the humor of it.

Maybe because they already had the suspect on the ground and had ascertained he was unarmed?

Nah, I'm sure it's just because he was white.

Been there too buddy. One of the things I haven't seen clarification on, and I guess we will never know is did she actually intend to shoot the guy rather than negligently discharge. Did she get scared shoot him and then realize it was a bad shoot.

Even when they shoot and kill someone cuffed on the ground and posing 0 threat, according to the b.a.r.t. execution of oscar grant, 2 years is an acceptable punishment.

Lol, I wish my occupation was that low on the osha death rate list, but negative. I just chose the highest death rate public servants on the list.

Yeah, I do not think she meant to discharge her firearm, hence this guy will be paid. Tough situation for her, but she needs to be mindful of where her trigger finger is. It would be hard not to jolt after being surprised by someone hiding. Tough situation, but damn guy just surrender! How these people don't understand the charges keep racking up the longer they prolong the situation is beyond me.

Doesn't she have a shitty piece from impound she could just toss on the ground off camera? Cops are slippin.
