In practice, however, it's an idea which only cements privilege and inequality.

What if I were to say "well if I were Muslim and I opened a business in Jackson, MS, and said I wouldn't cater to non-Muslims, how would you feel" you'd probably say "well that's your right." You can easily say this knowing that market forces would absolutely obliterate my business. In that circumstance, I don't have the privilege to discriminate and still operate a business.

Yeah I can see that, and maybe I'm being a little naive when I think the businesses that would openly discriminate against someone based on race, sex, religion, etc, are a very small minority. I do think if a business is going to discriminate based on those things, they should make it known. I mean we all know a bank is going to turn you down for a loan if you have bad credit, or a bar is going to refuse to serve you a drink if you're clearly drunk and belligerent, or certain restaurants won't seat you without a coat and tie, etc.

I don't think that's naive at all. I think it would be rare.

If a business is stupid enough to turn down a customer because they are gay, then they will have to deal with the bad word of mouth about their business. They should have the right to deny the customer though.

This is fricking America

Except that Arizona's governor vetoed it.

Wonder if Mississippi's governor will do the same?

SIAP but a group of MS baptist and Methodist pastors wrote a letter to the legislature asking the governor to veto the bill. I'm on my phone and can't find the link atm
