This is cool / retro and what not, but the boiling marginally cuts the caffiene and flavor out of the grounds compared to a regular pot or french press.
A good percolator cycles through the water at just below the boiling point.

yes

When did you start drinking it regularly?
started casually drinking in college
quote:
Are you totally dependent on it?
No. My first year out of college in the real world, I became very dependent on it. I was drinking a huge starbucks with an extra shot every morning. So I kind of quit drinking it regularly because I didn't like that feeling.
quote:
How do you take it?
I like really strong coffee with a little creamer and sugar, but I still want to taste the coffee.
quote:
Do you drink decaf?
no. Never have. I can drink coffee with dinner and it not keep me up.
quote:
Preferred brand?
I don't really have one. People are way too anal about their coffee brands. Good coffee is good coffee.

Best cup of coffee you ever had?
It was a cup at a restaurant that didn't last in Ridgeland, MS. It was also the first time I had been introduced to chicory. It was after six courses and a bottle of win. Damn good.

Preferred method of delivery (ie Mr Coffee pot, Keurig, coffee shop)?
Percolator. Duh. But I never use one because the keurig is much easier.

Probably so. I'll be sluggish and have a headache in the morning without it.
Black
Negative. Would be like taking acetaminophen-free Tylenol.
I'm gonna say Seaport. I work in Port Arthur and it's what was available in the breakroom and it just kind of stuck.
I'm not much of a coffee connoisseur
Regular Mr. Coffee pot

Unless it's on the stove, then it recycles it, and recycles it, and recycles it..
Everyone shits on K cups because they think it's "trendy", but the higher than pot water temperatures combined with the semi pressurized passage thru the cup and microfilter are very effective.
Not to mention the variety.
I'm not here to shite on percolators or french press.. I have both and still ust them sometimes if I'm bored and awake like a madman at 5 a.m. on Saturdays..

I'm going to buy an Aeropress this week. My friend has one and highly recommends it. They're like $25 at Bed Bath & Beyond, and my French press has seen better days.

Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans is a close second. That first time with chicory changed my life.

I love coffee, drink the shite out.

Interesting. It's still steeping coffee but it's "expressed" through. Let us know how it works out.
Looks much cleaner than a french press also.

Been contemplating trying a french press for a while now.
Want to see what its all about and if it makes a difference in taste.

Yeah he says it's a lot less bitter than French press coffee. The only drawback is it only makes one cup at a time, but I'd only do it on the weekends.

To those who don't use press pots.
Its not really time consuming. Here's my coffee making ritual.
Put water on the stove to boil: 10 seconds.
Get beans out of cabinet and pour into grinder (which occupies much less space on my counter top than a whole coffee pot). Grind :30 seconds max
Dump this into the press pot and wait for water to boil and steam to whistle while I'm getting something for breakfast.
When the water boils, pour into the press pot. Wait another 2 minutes max, and press the plunger. There, its done.
It takes about 1 minute total of labor, the coffee tastes better, fresher, smoother, and I don't have some bulky, dirty coffee pot on my counter. I don't have to fish a filter out and then throw it away the next time I make coffee.
If my press pot gets nasty, I can just put the whole thing in the dishwasher.
Those who have never french pressed their coffee are officially encouraged to try it by
<------this guy.
Bonus points: women will think you are sophisticated and old school when they see you do this. You get the whole fresh ground aroma and kettle whistling thing too, which I love.

Press pots are also the quick, clean and easy way to brew tea. Same method, except you just put a few tea bags in the pot instead of grinding coffee for it. Its equally easy to brew some green tea, or for iced tea. Plus you have the option of using loose leaf tea or bags. Its a good tool to have in the kitchen. Much more versatile and clean than a full on coffee pot. Minimal space, for max uses.

I've used hot water from the Keurig in a press pot before. Doing it wrong, I know but was worth a shot..

I don't drink coffee. I hate the taste.
I drink a big glass of sweet tea or a Mountain Dew every morning.

I generally stir my grounds after a minute with the water. Not sure if it does a lot...but I feel like it makes sense to stir it.

Yeah, the French press really doesn't take that long, but when you're getting 2 kids ready for school, packing lunches, eating breakfast, etc., it's a lot easier to set the timer on the Keurig. My travel mug of coffee is waiting for me just as I'm about to walk out the door.
