Is moving one of life’s necessary tortures?

Absolute worst and disorienting.

I've moved 6 times since I joined the military. It sucks.
Trying to stay here in Texas for my remaining 4 years so I only have to do it one more time before settling down for good.

3 moves equals a fire.
Think about it if you haven't lived it.

My wife and her mom have done the organizing and packing when we've moved. They're slightly obsessive about it.
Then we hire professionals to move it all. It's worth every dime spent.

All I know is that every time I have moved I throw away half my shite and end up never unpacking another 25%.

Preach brother, preach.
I, foolishly, did 70% of the packing and loading for this current move where I'm moving my mother and I to NW Arkansas. My brother and his family got here today to help finish.
Never. Never again. I don't care if I have to go without food for a month to hire professionals to move me next time. If it means not having to do this again then I'll learn how to get my food through photosynthesis just to save money for it.

I learned after the first couple of moves as an adult. You ain't just packing clothes and the futon anymore.

I was wondering about that the other day. I hope everything went OK.

Hate is an understatement. Not only the physical move, but the fricking paperwork (changing address, numbers, etc).

We are fully packed, even my computer, and heading out tomorrow morning. Once I unpack I plan on dying for a few days. Or at least slipping into a coma.

military moves are cake. Try paying your own nickel, $30,000 to move out of Alaska! And that’s only bringing half our shite. Had to spend another $30K to replace a full house and garage worth of furniture, kitchen shite, etc.
I did upgrade my tools tho

All moved in. As chaotic as it was, now I’ve got a hill top sunset view every night.

Congrats! The best beer is the one you finally have in the recliner sitting where it goes.

I shall admit, I had some very nice bourbon to celebrate surviving the move to NW Arkansas. We are in the unpacking/replacing phase of the move now. Nothing quite like watching your carefully hoarded savings slowly drain away. Or not so slowly drain away as the case may be.
I am thankful that I took my brother's estimate of how much the move would cost and doubled it. You want to have an ample safety cushion when moving because everything that can go wrong will go wrong. As an example the van needed over a thousand dollars of work because of course it did.

We moved from Texas to Illinois, then back to Teaxs 8 years later. (Both company moves with full service movers $20K) They did everything but unpack.
Fast forward... Built a house and moved on my own to Broussard from Dallas. We packed all our stuff. (4 bedroom home). It was $4600.00. I honestly think the $4600 move was less stressful than the other two. I think packing your own stuff helps with the stress and uncertainty for some reason.
