shite, what the hell is with American pride? I feel fortunate to be from America, but how can I be proud of that? It's not like I chose to be born in America. I just as easily have been born in some central American shithole - would I be proud of that? Hell no.

yep and if the money grubbing NORTHERN textile mills would have paid a decent price for cotton then slavery would not have been an issue.
I abhor slavery in any form but the South has much more cultural heritage than just slavery.

I understand where you're coming from. I never got the whole American Pride thing. Yeah it's a nice place to live, but people act it's the ONLY nice place to live, same thing with southerners.

This is wrong.
The south was superior at the military game. They had a huge advantage with horse riding.
The Union was able to print off 400 million dollars interest free to aid in their war efforts when things got bad. This was huge.
The Union was able to do some tricky things with blockades that really hurt the south.
And the Union was able to take people fresh off the boat and give em a uniform to fight. Hundreds of thousands of Union soldiers were foreign born.

There's generally a problem with empathy today in general. It's a social problem that's epidemic. Not understanding is definitely a symptom
It's not wise to fly the flag, not because of racism, but it offends far too many people.
