I think the heritage people would have a better leg to stand on if they used the actual CSA flag rather than the Confederate Battle flag.

That is a good point. Why use the Northern Va Army flag for a State of Ga lic plate? The CSA flag looks completely different.

It's the history of a region. It's also nothing to be proud of. The racist south was inferior. The racist south lost. Why would anyone be proud of that?

Why would any of them be okay?
The country was started for the sole reason of enslaving black people. That's it. Nothing else. They why the country existed. That's what the flag represents.

I dind't say it was ok. I said if they are gonna use one, use the correct one.

I still don't think it'd be okay, just would give their heritage argument more credence. Instead they use the battle flag that's been co-opted by every racist group since the Civil War. It just defeats their entire heritage argument.

Why does a Confederate flag even exist? Slavery. The war was about slavery. The South seceded and started a new country 100% because of slavery.
How on earth can you fly that flag and have it NOT be racially charged?
Welllll, while this is neither here nor there, but there was still a sizable portion of the population that was not in love with the idea of a strong, central federal government, and believed the Articles of Confederation should have been left alone.
Hence, the Confederate States of America.
Other than that, it was a war, just like any other. A few rich dudes said jump, a million young men said how high?
But a rebel battle flag? Sounds like an elaborate troll.

quote:This is a Sons of Confederate Veterans plate - not a new one, just a redesign of the existing plate. The square, ANV flag is part of the SCV logo - with the words Sons of|Confederate|Veterans|1896 around the four sides. The only real difference between the existing Ga SCV plate and the new one is the addition of the screen image of the flag in the background.

Also, the "CSA flag" can mean many different things. There were actually three Confederate national flags. The first, to which you are referring, looked a lot like the existing US flag. As such, it was often confused on the battlefield, which is one of the reasons for the battle flag's design. The second national flag (stainless) was a white banner with the battle flag in the canton. This flag was seen as too similar to a flag of surrender, so the third national flag had a red stripe the width of the flag on the fly.
The screen image in the background, if you notice, is rectangular. The ANV flags were, for the most part square. The rectangular flags were more typical in the Army of Tennessee, and came from the Dalton (Ga) depot. These were the flags that were carried by most Confederate units during the Atlanta campaign, and as such make perfect sense to include on a Georgia plate.

Agreed. It's funny how publicly you can fly a CSA national flag and no one ever has a problem with it, its just the battle flag people see as a problem because they've been taught to. I'm not all about either, just find it humorous.

You sound so bitter about the south, why the hell did you ever go to UK?

In my opinion the argument that the Conf flag is immediately thrown out the window when you think about the last 50 years or so. When the KKK was out terrorizing minorities, what flag did they fly? When thousands of white people stood against intergration of schools what flag did they fly? Throughout history symbols take on a completely different meaning when acquired by a different group. For instance, did you know that the swastika was a Christian symbol? Now when you look at it what do you immediately think about? Same with the confederate flag.
Also my freshman year there was a black guy from Texas who wore a hat with the confederate flags on it. He said he wore it to show his pride in his southern heritage..... How ignorant.

Nothing like a white person to tell a minority what they should be offended about.
Let me guess, you're against Redskins too?

Kentucky never seceded and wasn't a part of the CSA.
