Neither of my parents smoked, so I never thought it was normal. Don't plan to ever start.

One of my grandfathers died of oat cell lung cancer in the early 60s ... too young. Rolled his own outta Prince Albert cans since he was 12. Turn of the last century mind you. Filled those cans full of silver ... dimes and quarters mostly but the big round cans he filled full of silver dollars.
I used those cans as collateral on my first venture after I got out of the service. Paid it back in six months and have never looked back. I've got those cans of silver in my safe still today.
My other Grandfather was a preacher, a painter and a drunk. Beat the piss outta his kids but all I remember of him is him shagging baseballs and footballs I would throw through a swinging car tire under the pecan trees when I was a kid.
I still have his Bible.

It's a DNA gene pool thing. You do not smoke because they didn't smoke. You do not smoke because their DNA dictates so Paisano.

My grandfather helped raise me as my dad lied to my mom and walked out. I'm glad the fricker is dead. The hardest day of my life was watching my grandfather die in the ICU.
The last words he ever said to me was "That fricking jockey". He'd been sleeping woke up right after the Belmont asked me if my horse won. I said no, he got boxed in on rail. He responded with "that fricking jockey" he laid back down and never said another word.

WUT?
If you come from a herd of tobacco growing moonshine folks, smoking and drinking is just part of the family business. If it was DNA then the last generation should smoke and drink yet none of them seem to do this. Of course this new generation of Americans seem a bit of the zombie generation so maybe they need to smoke and drink to get a bit wilder.
