El Paso. Ugh. That's a little over a year of my life I'll never get back. Fort Bliss, isn't.
Thankfully I had a deployment to Jordan as a consolation prize.

Either over Florida. At least Gator territory in Florida anyway.

Alabama is one of the more geographically diverse states in the country. Mountains, caves, beaches, large rivers and lakes, a brackish delta. The geography is great
Have you seen the documentary American Amazon?
Great piece on the Mobile Tensaw delta

I'll be honest, I miss how close the mountains were for me growing up in Huntsville, but Cola isn't too bad. Two hours and I'm back in the Appalachians, and only two hours to the beach instead of six from Huntsville. And a helluva lot less tornadoes.
I'm assuming by Cola (as most South Carolinians do) that you are referring to the superior of the Columbias in the SEC.
And if you are, then you understand why so many of us that are native South Carolinians choose to remain in SC. Since it is a smaller state that has both beaches and mountains, the close proximity to either is a very appealing factor. The people are great (as long as you avoid that area around Pickens Tech, of course

Of course, I am just a little biased.
I am smitten by South Carolina. I could give up all modern possession and just live on Fripp/Hunting/Dafuskie/etc Islands and be at total peace.

If the hypothetical is "Would you rather live in ______ or Mississippi," the answer is always ______.

Mississippi is definitely last on my last within the South, but I'd rather live there than many other states. Not because it is objectively better, but because I am an unreconstructed Southerner and the thought of living in the Midwest or New England sounds like a nightmare.

Bama's gulf coast is one of the nicest in the country
It amazes me how dumb people from Alabama are.
Hawaii beaches
Florida beaches
California beaches
Carolina beaches
Massachusetts beaches
But yeah, Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are way better...

I'd take it over all but the Emerald Coast, California, and Hawaii.
I notice that there's no mention of LA beaches despite a much, much larger coastline - same goes for TX.

You're smitten with the Atlantic coast and low country. Spend much time in the upstate or east of Columbia and the smitten decreases considerably, IMO.

Brown water don't make nice beaches.

Bama hands down. Hunting and bass fishing are A+.

Oh, absolutely. And thank God that tourists and snowbirds have not invaded those areas. Every time I see a show on the travel channel featuring that area I cringe and wish that they would shut the hell up about those areas of SC. Let us keep the best parts of the coast the secret of native South Carolinians and Southerners that have moved to SC..but keep the snowbirds tf away..far, far away!
And Centinel...welcome to SC!

shite son, I grew up on a brown-green river. I didn't know natural water could be blue until I was 10.
