That ketchup thing just told me you don't really like a good steak... but to each his own.
Me - Medium/rare, little salt, little pepper, little garlic. Strip or Ribeye my fave.
If you ever want to try something different that is tasty - grill one with some smoked bourbon pepper instead of black pepper. Makes an interesting change -

quote:
Marinade with soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Dry the steak completely.
Dry rub - season salt, lemon pepper, cayenne, garlic salt, and brown sugar.
Make sure it's dry again.
I'm trying this this weekend.

Rare. Just walk it by the fire.

I am glad there are some Americans in here. People saying Medium-Well and Well Done are killing me. At that point you're eating rubber and or a woman.
Also, for marinades, I usually keep it simple. Marinate in olive oil after rubbing it with some salt and pepper my sisters sent me from Italy. Which is still salt and pepper...but high class.

Depends on the steak. Most steaks I will have medium rare with butter and pepper on them. If it is a prime cut like a filet, I will ask the waiter to take it out of the fridge and yell at it for a minute or so, then put it on the plate.

Knock the horns off and wipe its arse and throw it on my plate still mooing and that is how I like my steak!!!

I disagree with a good steak not needing sauce. I am pretty sure I have offended some chefs by asking for A1. I just absolutely love the taste of it.
I do not always use it though even though I freakin love it.
For the steak, I like it mid rare.

Oven at 550
3 minutes both sides and hit the edges
Into the oven for 5 minutes.
