You pretty much had that view from the beginning, so at least you are consistent.

Sorry to bother you, Genro. You are a prince among men.

I thought that we were having a discussion and I was responding to people. I had no idea that I had passed my quoto in the response before I slipped over into the "troll" portion.

Or, you say that I was there to begin with. Whatever. That is your judgment. I know my intent in the beginning. Think what you want.

The conclusion that we have all come to multiple times itt is that stuff happened in the past that no one is proud of, but that we shouldn't let that affect our dealings going forward. Events in Selma do not mean that any white person today needs to hang their head in shame, rather that they continue to treat others with respect (and that goes for black people too).

I don't really care what happened before I was born, either. Has no bearing on how I treat my wife or any other white person today.

You're creating drama out of semantics, as is your trollish nature.

Please continue. You're highly entertaining.

I promise to stop responding in ways you don't like when you stop starting OP's with trolling, provocative, bigoted, dumb questions.

Deal?

People can respond how they want. You don't know what you are talking about.

Roll Damn Tide.

I am asking how you see your state HISTORY based on what happened and how that view of history affects how you see the present?

I view all of it... as history. Something that happened before I was born. Everything that took place prior to today, has at some point affected where we are today. Selma, Von Braun living in Huntsville and working at NASA, Looney's Tavern and moonshining in dry counties..

I don't feel anything about any of those either. They happened. I know about them. That's it.

So, when anything happens connected to race anywhere, you are confused by it and have no idea why anyone cares - because you don't personally care.

I'm not confused at all. Human nature is what it is. There will always be those that will use whatever means they can to put themselves above others. Be it race, wealth, education... Greed, power and sin has been around since Cain and Abel. It was not invented by the white populace in the 1960's. I'm as indifferent to the slaughter of Hebrews in B.C., because, there is nothing to gain from "feeling" a certain way about it. You observe, learn and understand.. then progress or digress. It's really that simple.

Unless they don't line up with what you think they should say about their state history, of course

But the white people on this website used to be in power back during the bad time, not them personally but their heritage, and therefore they should have a way of viewing the past and present histories of the state in the context of how they approach the world today that is somehow different but I'm not saying they're racist or guilty or attacking them in any way

Great answer. Thanks, Alahunter. That is helpful. I tend to feel more connected with where I am from and am interested in learning more about it. I like to know how things were before because it helps me understand the present better. But, you have a different view.

I could have used the word "think" instead of "feel" and it would have better conveyed my intent. I was not interested in people feeling a bunch of guilt over the past. If that were my intent, I would have been lobbying for that from the beginning. Instead, I state the opposite:

No one should "feel" guilty for anything that they had no part in personally.

Yes you continue to go out your way to say no one should feel guilty when there's no reason to say it in the first place. That's part of your trolling technique.

But I'm not saying you're a troll

You are such a hack. And, you are a consistent hack across a wide variety of subjects. So, hack away. You are good at it.

I have explained over and over what motivated my question. You can't see any of this without putting up your defenses that someone might be trying to make you feel guilty. Well, Genro, please know that you are off the hook with me - it never occured to me that you or any other white Alabamians should feel guilty about the past if you weren't the one that actually harmed someone. So, be free brother. You need it.

We tend to compartmentalize history into subjects and deal with them separately. Our educational system teaches us to do that. Looking back on things, I now see things more holistically and it has changed the way that I view the past. It helps me understand better what actually happened and it helps me better understand how things actually are today.

You can do with that what you want. Me trying to make anyone feel 'guilty' was never a part of it. If it had been, I would have been arguing for that.

I'm pretty sure most everyone has stated they don't feel a certain way about it and have just simply shown an indifference to it, other than the fact that it happened and we're far removed from that as a society, nationally and regionally now.

Good Lord. Are you serious? Is this part of your idiot technique???

I am saying that I don't want anyone to feel guilty about stuff they never did because I keep getting accused of trying to stir up white guilt. I have no desire to do that so I am trying to allay those concerns. I was working along another line of thought that you completely misinterpreted. I have been answering you because you jumped in and dominated the entire thread after that.

Think what you want, dude. I have tried to answer you.
