How many here pay someone through a company like Wag, Rover, Purrs and Woofs to walk their dog(s)? How much to do you really trust that person to do their job and handle your pet with care?

Saw this on my local news this evening and anyone who uses these companies needs to have second thoughts. I know its not everyone who works for these companies but people like the ahole in the article and video exist so be aware of who is taking care of your best buddy.

Article and video below. The video will piss you off because if it was my pet, I'd be giving him an arse whipping like he never experienced before. I just want to let as many people know as possible.

Sorry, had to give you shite. Just read the article, some horrendous stuff there. Not sure how these companies can effectively vet applicants because I feel like most animal abuse cases don’t get prosecuted.

You’re probably best of just paying a neighborhood kid to do it. Dunno, I walk my own dogs. If I were a stranger I’d probably hit them myself. They’re very bad.

I would be furious if that happened to my animal. I would probably look for a local person in the paper rather than a phone app for my dog.

My sister uses one of these services. They have an older dog at home that needs to go out regularly. She works and her office isnt close to home. its a little weird because the service has an app. She can see the route walked, whether the dog took a dump or peed. etc. (thats weird.)

Yeah, my dog would frick up a stranger who tried to kick him all on his own, but he'd still get my foot up his ads either way

Lady down the street from me loves my dog and comes over a few times a week and takes her with her on walks. I forget how this started, but she has a key to our house, and she refuses compensation for it. I buy her a nice bottle of wine every now and then.

My dog would freak out over a stranger coming in the house to take her for a walk.

Wow he kicked a dog, big fricking deal. Do you not see what other dogs do to each other? OP is a real alpha by turning to violence just like the dog walker. Real classy.

No, I never have paid a professional walker. I was afraid one of them might do something like in the video.

The problem with vetting processes is: they're either expensive or unreliable. A high end outfit with thorough background checks will likely be out of a lot of folks price range. An operation that is trying to compete with the prices of rival providers will have to cut corners.

Because of my inability to trust strangers, I've never hired anyone to walk my dog. Instead, my playbook has been:

Plan-A: reach out to friends who have earned my trust and confidence who have dogs that are friends with my dog and have the hound stay with them.

Plan-B: I board the dog at the vet or a good canine hotel/day care facility. It cost more than bartering favors with friends, but my dog is worth it.

Another hazard, possibly more likely and common is not malice, but incompetence or just bad circumstances. A walker might have a heart of gold, but a brain made out of kangaroo-shite. That could endanger our animals just as easily.

A friend of mine out in California lived next door to a lady that boarded dogs during the day and said she was mean as a snake to those pups once the owners weren't there.

Its hard to find someone that you can trust with the health and safety of your pet.
