Going to New Orleans for my first anniversary...

A few thoughts:

history.com/topics/new-orleans

experienceneworleans.com/history

neworleans.com/things-to-do/history

Restaurants we like:

Commander's Palace
1403 Washington Ave.

Mandina's Restaurant (a locals favorite - you'll find mostly locals)
3800 Canal St.

Deanie's Seafood
841 Iberville St.

Maspero's
440 Chartres St.

Mr. B's
201 Royal St.

Surrey's Juice Bar (edit: good breakfast; can buy good bloody mary next door and bring over)
1418 Magazine St.

Parkway Bakery & Tavern
538 Hagan Ave.

Cafe Du Monde of course

Maspero's is especially interesting because not only is it a good place to eat but it is also the building where Andrew Jackson met with the Lafitte Brothers (pirates) to plan strategy for the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.

Take the street car uptown and to the garden district. Beautiful homes, trees, old New Orleans. You can buy tickets on your phone with an app.

In addition to the French Quarter and the streetcar on St. Charles Ave., the National World War II museum is fantastic if they are interested in that war.

The Presbytere Museum to the right of St. Louis Cathedral has the permanent Mardi Gras and Katrina exhibits.

Royal St. is fun to walk down for shops, antique stores, and the Historic New Orleans Collection.

Just sit in Laffites drinking that purple drink until you and your cousin get into a fight and she leaves. Then do drugs, grab a bucket and some drum sticks. Youll make enough money to handle the divorce. Good to go

I haven't been to the Deanie's location in the Quarter, but I know damn well they know how to fry seafood. He's obviously not driving to Bucktown.

ETA: I could name you 20 terrific restaurants in Metairie off the of my head. How many can you name?

Atchafalaya Cafe for bloody marys and brunch. Then you can go walk around the houses at the Garden district.

I'd only go to WWII museum if its a non-weekend, off hours.

The D-Day Museum is pretty cool. I’d recommend that.

I’d also recommend going somewhere else, though. Beach? Mountains? Somewhere with only a 5% chance of being mugged instead of an 85% chance?
