Little girl lands position as construction boss.

A young family moved into a house next to a vacant lot. One day, a construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot.
The young family’s 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers. Eventually the construction crew, all of them “gems-in-the-rough” more or less, had adopted her as a kind of project mascot.
They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important. At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope containing ten dollars.
The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she take her ten dollars “pay” she’d received to the bank the next day to start a savings account. When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own paycheck at such a young age.
The little girl proudly replied: “I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us.”
“Oh my goodness gracious,” said the teller, “and will you be working on the house again this week, too?”
The little girl replied, “I will if those lazy assholes from Lowe’s ever deliver the fricking sheetrock.”

Today is a pretty darn big day in history.

The empire was already starting to come apart at the seams when Kublai rose to power. The invasion of Europe had ground on until the Mongols got an excuse to leave (the Mongol method of warfare was vastly superior to the Europeans in open battle... but kind of worthless against fortifications.)

In the Middle East the Mamluks were about to hand the Mongols their first major field battle defeat. They burned out the grasslands that the Mongols depended on to feed their vast number of horses, refused battle until the Eastern Roman Empire (a Mongol ally) had to withdraw their forces, and basically forced the Mongols to attack them on ground of the Mamluks choosing. Where the much heavier Mamluk cavalry crushed the Mongols decisively.

Kublai would finish the conquest of China (he was the Emperor when Marco Polo arrived) but he had two disastrous failed invasions of Japan and an equally terrible failed invasion of SE Asia. Cavalry, it would turn out, is not very effective in jungles.

A turning point in that sad little war. The French had taken advantage of the US Civil War to invade Mexico and quickly bulldozed the disorganized Mexican forces. The problem is Mexico is the 13th largest country in the world and a lot of that terrain is... well... rather unpleasant to fight in.

France poured gold and blood into expanding what they occupied with very little success. The Mexicans settled in for a long war. It finally stumbled to an end after the Civil War finished. The US had a vast amount of modern weapons they were happy to dump cheaply into Mexico and started not so quietly hinting that it would sure be a shame if they had to Monroe Doctrine France's arse.

Last, and certainly least, Karl Marx. In modern terms he was a trust fund DSA type who talked a good talk but never actually did anything. Think Bernie Sanders but a marginally better writer.

The Marxist theory of economics is still popular today, even though it has been a dismal failure everywhere it has been attempted. Communism, the purest form of Marx's twaddle, believes in the state owning all property and the means of production. It doesn't work.

While golfing, a guy accidentally overturns his golf cart in a tremendous crash.

A very attractive female golfer, who lives in a townhome overlooking the golf course, hears the crash and calls out, "Are you okay?"

"I'm okay, thanks," says the guy, as he pulls himself from the twisted golf cart wreck.

She says, "Come up to my home, you can recover for a bit, and I'll help you with the golf cart up later."

Even being a bit dizzy, the guy couldn’t help but notice that her bathrobe was partially open, revealing what appeared to be an amazing figure.

"That's mighty nice of you," he answers, "but I really don't think my wife would approve"

"Oh, come on now." she insists.

She was so pretty, so very persuasive, and the guy was so relatively dazed!

"Well okay, but I'm quite sure my wife won't be happy with me"

After a couple of gin and tonics, he thanks her and says, "I feel a lot better, and know that my wife is going to be really upset, so I'd best leave now."

"Don't be silly!" she said with a coquettish smile, letting her robe fall even slightly more open. "Stay for a while. She won't know a thing, we can have another drink” then she asks, by the way, “where is she, anyway?"

The guy replies, "Probably still under the golf cart…”

Nope.

I looked this morning at the radar and it looked like you were going to get rain if it held together long enough. Hope you got some.
