The republicans also do a terrible job on how they disagree with issues. they isolate too many groups and every issue seems to have the same fight for them instead of having a few issues they fight strongly about and focusing on core issues.
Their core issues used to be fiscal conservatism and defense. They've let that take a back seat to social conservatism, and that isolates them from too many groups, making it hard to build a winning base. A candidate who is mainstream enough to win a national presidential election is going to be too liberal to make it through the primary battle. And sadly, I don't see that changing unless they make a move toward the center on social issues.

I cringe every time something big goes down in the political arena because it makes both newsfeeds completely unreadable for days on end

That's gotta be entertaining

It was funny because folks tried constantly to troll me since I make it pretty obvious that I'm conservative, but I'd also called the election months in advance so I was just pointing and laughing at fools

i agree semo any person that has a chance to actually win is ruined because of clowns like perry and santorum.
I really think the best shot to beat obama was mass gov. mittens running. He completely changed to win the nom and it killed him in the end along with picking a terrible vp that got ran over by someone that was in the political game way longer than him.
maybe one day the republicans will wise up and let social issues go or better yet say social issues should belong to the states.

Judging from a lot of your "opinions" you're a sappy Aggie.

Meh. Bachmann was worse than Perry. Perry fell behind in the polls initially because of what? Education for illegals in the state(if they have bought a good or service, or live in the state, they pay sales tax and property tax since we don't have income tax so they aren't mooching off of shite and which is why every Republican in the State Senate voted for it) and HPV vaccinations(which people cared about because it is an STD, and conservative mothers don't want to admit to themselves their daughters need to be protected from that). Something the Republican Party needs to not have some social outcry against. At that point he went overboard with taxes and crap to recoup, but his fate was sealed on those two issues alone, and something the Republican Party was idiotic for turning on him for.

Yep. By the time he got to the general election, he'd talked out of both sides of his mouth so much I had a hard time believing him. He either lied when he was governor to get elected, or he was lying then to get elected. That bothered me. So I voted for the Libertarian. A 3rd party candidate can't be included in the debates unless they got at least 5% of the vote in the previous election. I'm all for more options at this point.

Electing Obama was stupid, but change doesn't happen from just bitching at the other side. If Obama's policies don't work, it is of the people that have strong sense of civic duty to show how it doesn't, and create a better way, not bitch about it on facebook.

i can agree with that but perry is thrown in because he is religious and an aggy. I think the worst was santorum but that might just be because i think he is the worst besides palin.

I kind of put Santorum in the "bat-shite crazy" category, along with Bachmann. And I felt like Perry came across as a used-car salesman.
I think it's a foregone conclusion that Hillary Clinton will be the next Dem nominee. Who do you think the Republicans will put up, and could they beat her?

"religious" is just a generalization. Going by specific issues, stances on them, toting the party line, previous legislature, etc, his stances on social issues, and specifically the two listed that were the first major talking points of the Perry campaign, were not all in the part of the social issues category that is failing the Republican Party. It was quite in fact the opposite.

im a libertarian but the odds are really stacked against them. the election rules are so stacked to help the left and the right that its hard to break through that way and then the media is impossible to deal with. the mass media likes to act like tv is the only real media so they ignore all the online people. then when you think oh maybe fox news will give a libertarian some air time they dont and they make people believe libertarians are either a. liberals or b. kooks. its insane that the left media like cnn actually treats libertarians better than fox news.
eta: i believe libertarians need to start with some state out west and work their way to power through that. Maybe even start as small as running a city and when the city thrives move to the state level and when a whole state is thriving maybe they can bust the two party mold.
