Gatlinburg area cabin?

The wife and kids want to spend a long weekend in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area the first weekend of the new year. Problem is I don’t know Jack about that area. I would like some recommendations on where to stay. We want a cabin, probably 3 bedroom but 2 will do in a pinch for just me, the wife and 2 teenage daughters. I don’t want to be in the middle of town, I’d rather be in the countryside. Yeah, I know, Google, but sometimes you just want somebody that knows what the hell they are talking about from firsthand experience, not a marketing spiel. So whatcha got?
ETA: I’d like to keep it $200 a night or less.

Your description is a little vague, but based on it, I'd suggest somewhere around Townsend if you really want to be away from the town.

Thanks about the Travel Board. I was looking for something like that but didn’t see it listed on the main menu.

Check some of the time share websites. People that they've suckered into buying are always looking to rent theirs so they can recoup at least a little of their losses. You can find some good deals there.

While it is in the foothills of the mountains in Townsend...the KOA Kabins are actually pretty fun. They are small...but they have a bedroom for you and the missus, and a loft for the kids that can be a lot of fun. We rented one right beside a creek for Christmas a few years ago, and the kids loved it.
Townsend KOA
It isn't "glamping"...but it is affordable, and rustic enough to make is special.

American patriot getaways have the best rates I have found, We stayed in between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge last year and it was perfect, close enough to both that it wasn't too big of a hassle going to either one. I wan't to say it was listed in Sevierville.

I suppose you'd be safe if you're not a Ford owner.

Good overall post, but my first take is, if you want it out in the country a bit, why does it matter that it's Gatlinburg/PF?
You could make it so many other places
just thinking out loud
