Dearborn, Michigan is about the same in Muslim population. Probably the last place (well, anywhere in Michigan for that matter) I would want to live.

It's too bad, Marseille should be a badass city. Sits on the Mediterranean coast and all. It's probably the Italian influence as well as the Muslims that have made it shitty.

I've been to Italy twice and while this describes some areas, there are others that are simply spectacular. Southern Italy (Rome and all points South) mostly fits this mold as it is poor, rural, backwards, violent, and controlled by organized crime.
However, central and Northern Italy didn't strike me this way at all. It was beautiful and very clean, especially in Florence.

True. Italy is probably the most outwardly racist first world country. Norther Italians hate Muslims, and Africans (and consider darker skinned Southern Italians to be Africans, not real Italians) and Southern Italians are probably more outwardly racist than their Northern Counterparts and hate Africans and Muslims.

It's VERY acceptable to be very vocally and outwardly racist in Italy. It's not like it is the US at all.
