It was a bizarre case all around, not only because his motives were hidden so well, but just because he doesn't fit the profile of someone who would do it.
If he wanted real infamy (attention) as they've alluded to, wouldn't he release some moronic manifesto? I mean, almost every single one of the mass shooters had lengthy rants and raves about everything ranging from bullying to schizophrenic lunacy.
Depressed, a lot of money and starting to take anti-anxiety medication my bet is on his declining mental health.
Because he was being blackmailed by a very powerful secret group.

They don't actively watch anything. They have a giant database that collects everything until they need something against you. Eventually, when they want you to do something they come to your house with things that you've said/typed printed out -- sometimes it's completely fabricated but they control the entire system. They can literally frame you with anything, child porn included.
