It's awesome for dudes who like getting tit pics, pics of drugs, and pics of our friends hammered and doing retarded shite without it being there to stay. Bama Bird might not enjoy such things though.
I used to think this, but it's an excellent way to communicate with friends.
Pic with a little text, can send it out to a group easily.
Much better than sending pics via text.
I swore I'd never use this app for the reasons you mentioned, but find myself using it all the time.

Women should not hold office. They are terrible at it.

Yeah, the planking one was stupid as shite, as are all of them. The Harlem Shake, planking, Tebowing -- can't people just live their lives and be fricking normal without always trying to start or participating in some dumb meme, fad or trend?
The selfie is the worst fad, and probably because it's thrown back curtain on just how self-centered society is. There's nothing more narcissistic than taking pictures of yourself.

Another trend I'm glad to see (seemingly) coming to an end is that of people overusing/misusing the word "literally" in situations where it's not applicable at all. I remember hearing a sports talking head talk about how Tom Brady "literally has ice water in his veins." Oh really? Instead of blood, Tom Brady has actual ice water flowing through his body? That means he'd literally be a terrifying cyborg.
Had a buddy one time gripe about traffic by saying that the driver behind him was "literally on top of me."
There's a great t-shirt that says "people who misuse the word 'literally' make me figuratively insane."
