Interesting scenario. Obviously what she said was utterly stupid (especially putting it online for the entire world to see) but it seems a bit odd to me that she could be expelled from school for it. What if some sophomores posted pictures of them going out to the bars underage, is that worthy of expulsion? How bout some students posting videos smoking or doing other drugs? Both of those scenarios are actually against the law, while what she did is not (although in indescribably poor taste). Or how bout if she had the exact same rant but it was about muslims instead of black people? I assume she was expelled for some sort of generic, catch-all "code of conduct policy" but again where is the line drawn?

On your point about legality, BYU can kick you out for cursing and premarital sex because of thier code of conduct. I got a Student Non-Academic Misconduct for having alcohol in the dorms as a minor. Unlike this chick however, thousands of kids across college campuses got in trouble for minor in possession that weekend. Twitter doesn’t get set ablaze by those actions and the reputation of the school is not hurt
