For anyone that believes that (which is fine) I have a question or two.

I'm reading The Odyssey right now. It was written roughly 750B.C., which makes it surviving the next 2,700+ years and being here today absolutely astonishing.

Genesis is said to have been written in 1445B.C. For those believing the creation to be 6,000 years ago that puts the creation right around 3986B.C.

My question is about the gap of 2,551 years between the time the content of Genesis occurred to the time it was actually written. I'm trying to wrap my head around there being a gap of 2 and a half millennia and how to comprehend that today. How can that much time go by between an event and it being FIRST recorded?

For those saying "I don't believe the earth is 6,000 years old, I believe it's older," add however many millennia you believe are added on between creation and the time it was written in 1445B.C.

(Disclosure: I'm a Christian. I don't have the answers. I don't feel guilty for asking the questions.)

It's about 4 and a half billion years old.

Which is why it is a hard notion that the son of all creation appeared on this little rock just a couple thousand years ago.

How convenient.

It may just be late and my adderall buzz is wearing off but I do not think your middle sentence resulted in the point you were trying to make. I think I gathered it nonetheless.

Can this thread be about the Time Cube?

Time Cube

quote:

In 1884, meridian time personnel met
in Washington to change Earth time.
First words said was that only 1 day
could be used on Earth to not change
the 1 day bible. So they applied the 1
day and ignored the other 3 days.
The bible time was wrong then and it
proved wrong today. This a major lie
has so much evil feed from it's wrong.
No man on Earth has no belly-button,
it proves every believer on Earth a liar.

The earth is somewhere between 28 and 1 gajillion years old.

Puerto Ricans likely built it in 1934 while the Jews buried the fossils.

None of y'all have even ever looked at the evidence.

There are books written about it too somewhere whatever frick you I said there were books written about it but I didn't clarify what "it" was it can be anything it is you and possibly Osama bin laden and holy frick you're a terrorist look at the facts.

Genesis is a fairy tale and I can't understand the rest of what you're saying. Are you trying to figure out how Genesis could happen and then people don't even have pen and paper, but somehow we still know about it? Telephone, bro. Or divine inspiration. Who knows.

It's a fairy tale. No different than how any of the other religions of the world transcribed creation. Resolve how you believe the the Indian religions, the Iranian religions, the East Asian religions, the tribal African, the tribal American, the tribal Oceanic, the ancient Greek, the ancient Roman, the ancient Egyptian, the ancient Scandinavians etc... how everyone of these developed and transcribed their origins, and you can just accept that that is how the Abrahamic religions(Jews, Muslims and Christians) all developed and transcribed theirs.

It's the same.

Ah college and adderall. Mix that with crazy pussy, and that's how you leave Christianity behind my friend. Religion is important, and I admire a lot of Christianity, but you've already opened the door. Once you resolve the fact that your morality doesn't need to be hinged to these fairy tales, as hard as that is to do, you'll be much happier.

Because they don't believe in a higher power yet make it a point to let other people know this. Why? Just don't believe in God and go on your merry way. Seriously get a fricking life. I understand Christians trying to spread the word of God, it's a part of being a Christian. Atheists are just egotistical and jaded frick sticks.

I don't like militant reddit atheists either. Mean spirited, smug, and equally zealous and religious about atheism as their counterparts..

But when somebody asks?

If the title had been "Earth is flat" would only flat earthers be acceptable participants in the discussion?

For the record I'd probably classify myself as agnostic .. or just not knowing. Letting the mystery be, as my gal Iris DeMent would say.

They are, I mean what's the point?

I don't believe in God, but I'm not going to label myself and try to convince others to believe what I do. If being a Christian or worshiping that tree over there makes you a better person, then more power to you.

That could be said of a lot of things outside of the topic currently at hand.

Which would render internet forums completely pointless.

If I prod and poke, it's not to win converts. I like going back and forth.

I think your description would apply to militant atheist neckbeards more than your run-of-the-mill non-religious type.

I prod and poke, but it's all fun and games to me. I like to think I still stick to me original beliefs without trying to manipulate others. This carries over to something as simple as the Rant. I don't want to make an Auburn fan be an Alabama fan.
