You're right, sort of, but there are inherent problems with any newbie shooter thinking a pump shotgun is the end-all be-all of home defense.

I agree, no option is perfect, but a shotgun is a very solid choice for someone simply trying to defend their home. It's ideal to have a shotgun and a handgun.

It's a shotgun that you're not going to be using for clays or hunting... it's going to be used to stop an intruder.

Savage 320

Pistol
for her.. a LCP/LCR or LC9 by Ruger. I have had Ruger pistols for years and never had any issue. And they won't break the bank.

You SR9/SR40/SR45
again great firearms and won't break the bank.

Whatever you get you and she both need to practice with them especially the pistol... shotgun not so much

Shotgun might be the right answer if aim is an issue, but it needs to be something she can handle.

Defense shotgun with 00 buck. /thread

For a novice protecting the inside of their home, it can't be beat. Get a tactical light with pulse function. All that can be had in your price range.
You can't go wrong with a Remington 870 or Mossburg 500.

No sound brings fear to an intruder like the sound of a pump shotgun chambering a round.

Inside a house, they will wreck havoc and you are virtually guaranteed you will kill whomever is in front of the gun, including your dog, kids, wife, (you) - whoever is in the spray pattern.

Might consider a Taurus Judge pistol loaded with .410 shells. Inside the house, this would probably be lethal (with 410 shells) also. Around $600 - $700.

Hollywood myth that continues to be perpetrated on the noobie gun-owning public.

If you're racking a pump when someone is already in the house then you're wrong.

Also ... River LCP is the worst stove-piping POS ever made next to a High Point.

The LCR is not bad though.

I have owned 4 .380 in my life a colt, taurus, another taurus, and the LCP which I have now.... the LCP has been hands down the best of them. Again someone else may have had a different exp with it but for me I wouldn't trade it for anything(within reason )

16ga or 20ga shotgun. You don't need to spend a fortune, you can get a good one under $400. 16ga may be difficult to find at a decent price, a used one would work.

Remington 870, Nelli Nova... Any shotgun will be good if you take care of it. Oil it once or twice a month, clean it, and fire it

Those old Model 24s are highly sought after these days in the Prepper niche market.

They are neat combo guns.

Shotgun for the house for sure. Pistol = CZ 75, accurate as hell.

CZ makes a great semi auto for the money .... but it's still a semi auto.

OP needs a revolver.

The problem with having a gun in the home is that domestic quarrels take on a different meaning quickly...and it may not be your g/f or wife...it can be a son/daughter/daughters puke b/f/cousin etc etc. Give that some thought.

The best protection against break ins is a loud barking dog...and if the intruder wants in even though a dog is barking and growling..then they are mental to begin with. Most break ins happen when folks aren't home and by 13-16 yr olds. That's a fact. They would pizz their pants if surprised by somebody home.

If a home invasion goes down it isn't out of the clear blue normally...it happens when you are in the driveway getting out of your pimped out SUV or sports car....that shotgun is useless in your closet. If the home invasion goes down while you are sleeping (very very rare)...then theres a reason...you either flashing cash/ offspring or their b/f or g/f selling/doing dope and talking shite to gangster thug pukes or your lawn boy stakes out your home.

Get a 100 lb dog that is cool with kids but is protective of territory and raise children to make good choices...treat neighbors with respect and you will be ok. I live on a street 2 blocks long and we all have each others backs. I do have flaregun handy if approached outside in my driveway which will give a fricker a serious case of heartburn and I have two large dogs that protect their home.
