I am a UGA alum. I have not had spare change to donate for season tickets. I may start next year. Are the donations and money given to university for tickets tax deductible?

The cost of the tickets themselves is not deductible.

Only the donation portion, not the ticket price. And it's 80% deductible. However if you don't go to a game donate the ticket to the veteran ticket sites. I can get the exact place if you need it. Full price is deductible.

Eta, Game day for heroes is the place you can donate your tickets, based out of auburn but the work with teams and veterans all over the south

Tickets = not deductible
Donation = 80% deductible

I really wish the IRS would eliminate the deduction 100% as it is not really a donation, but a required part of season ticket cost. Whole thing is a sham and eliminating the deduction would give college sports back to the fans overnight.

donate
verb do·nate \ 'do-?nat , do-' \

donated; donating
transitive verb
1 :to make a gift of; especially :to contribute to a public or charitable cause

#1 it is not a grift if it is required
#2 considering calling large public schools charities is a joke
