Knowing what someone else will do, doesn't equate to not letting them have the free will to make that choice.
I can watch a child touch something hot for the first time, knowing it will hurt. It doesn't mean the child didn't make the choice to touch it. Sometimes you let someone deal with the consequences of a bad decision, based on their free will to do so.

You have an illusion of choice. Every second, your brain is making decisions before you are consciously aware of them. In essence, your brain decides whether or not you sleep with said girl or not and your consciousness creates a rationalization for that decision.
Then again it's my brain so it's my decision making process so it's my choice deduces by my brain. Also, there are more complex decisions that the brain can't make routinely without input from consciousness. Force field analysis is a good example in which you weigh an number of pros and cons and come to a logical conclusion.

then why would you pray for anything?
I don't.

You should.

regular prayer and meditation has been shown in numerous scientific studies to be an important factor in living longer and staying healthy.

It doesn't matter if you pray for yourself or for others, pray to heal an illness or for peace in the world, or simply sit in silence and quiet the mind -- the effects appear to be the same. A wide variety of spiritual practices have been shown to help alleviate the stress levels, which are one of the major risk factors for disease. They also are powerful ways to maintain a positive outlook and successfully weather the trials which come to all of us in life

Yes. I also believe God knows what I'm going to do before I do it. He isn't forcing me to do it though.
How is that free will?

I'll say a prayer at your funeral, young un.

I know which Au fans will post, if I make a thread... Hey Aubies.. let's talk... it's still free will if I decide to make the thread or not.

But if God knows what choices you're going to make, why not just put you in Heaven or Hell from the get-go? Why go through with the farce?

There's no point to this thread. There's one side that is of the ghost in the machine Cartesian Dualism worldview, and another side that views humans as nothing more than a massive agglomeration of cells. They're talking right past one another.

Do you expect that something finite can completely understand that which is infinite?

That's like saying "that's just the way God made it"

Not really

Yes, the concept of infinity crops up constantly in mathematics and physics and there are ways to deal with it. See the Delta function or improper integrals.

Also, you had no choice over your genetics or your environment, both of which are HUGE factors in your personality, physical shape, brain structure, etc.
One's environment is a web of other's "choices." You're not getting yourself out of the argument quite that easily.

If you don't believe in free will, then by my definition........you actually do.

His assumption is backed by neuroscience, though.
No, it's not. And you're still conflating the "unconscious" choice with a lack of free will.

I'm amazed at the lack of filter between thought and actually saying/typing something sometimes.
