You should let your engine run at least a minute if < 40° before putting it in gear. That's if it's been sitting overnight.

I'm trading the car in every four to five years anyways. If I can crank the car with my keypad while I'm finishing breakfast, I'm doing it.

Nailed it, I'm actually an automotive tech so kinda knew the answer before I asked.. Was just wondering how informed ppl are about their cars.. And to answer dudes question bout how it is harmful, gas is a solvent.. When your engine is cold the computer compensates by running a rich mix which, in fact, is harmful to your bores and rings
While this may be correct, for the most common consumer, this is a non-issue, with a modern engine. They simply dont keep the car long enough. However, one thing "warming up" a car can do to aid in useful life of the vehicle, is warming up the auto trans fluid. Trans is more likely to go out before the engine and it is better to get the fluid warmed before engaging in gear

I like the leather seats and steering wheel warm when I get in it.

I do. I've read the popular mechanics article that it is actually bad for your engine, but don't care. I'd rather get in a warm car.

If I do it's just so my arse isn't cold. Has nothing to do with engine.
