Have a Jack Russell adopted from humane. Never had her bring a rat home, but will take a squirrel occasionally from the top of our 6’ cypress fence. Doesn’t bring the trophy back. Just eats parts of it and leaves the rest in the yard. Neighbor had a Rat Terrier, they looked a lot alike but hated each other.

Yes. The word terrier means, loosely, to go 'to ground'. They have amazing instincts. My Mother's Jack Russel was an amazing varminter.

I have a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua. He has stuffed animal toys. He shakes the hell of his toys and grunts while he is doing the shaking. If he sees a squirrel, cat or opossum he goes ballistic. The best dog I have ever had..

Yes. Rat terriers are 'working' dogs. They were bred and trained for that.

Dachshunds will kill the shite out of rats, too. My mother bred them when I was growing up. They'll also kill rabbits, squirrels, moles, etc....

Yes.

I used to run them on squirrels too and they weren't bad at treeing them as long as they had seen it first. Not the best nose but plenty of grit.

I'm dating a girl with a rat terrier. That fricker loves to hunt and is obsessed with it. So long as she could catch one, I see no reason why she wouldn't kill it. According to one legend, a single rat terrier killed 2,500 of them in a barn in 7 hours. So yeah, it's a very safe assumption they kill rats.

Bump.

My rat terrier killed a half-grown possum this morning.
Glad he got that rabies booster a couple months back.
