That's the online price on their dealer website and the price through the credit union car network website.
The "price analysis" of the credit union site says it's $3,277 below average. Take that for what it's worth.

I'd still offer around 23-24k and walk if they dont budge. It's not a highly sought after used car, like full size trucks. They need to move quickly. Every dealer is different but they will have a set number of days that car stays on the lot and after that it goes to auction or another dealer in trade.
Used cars are high profit margin for them in comparison to new

What % can one reasonably expect to negotiate down? I know it depends on the car, but is there a rule of thumb for things like this? 10%? 12%?

you'll undoubtedly notice it. It's 3:13 on the last day of the month. They are gonna want to sell this car. Just make sure they want to sell the car more than you want to buy it.

your CU also wants you to buy the car, to be fair.

Very true. But my CU doesn't have shareholders. So the profits get paid out to members (like me).

So, did you buy the car?

I did. $29.1k bottom line for taxes, title, fees, and the car.
They weren't budging from the online price and added a grand for some extras they put in. After taxes it was at $31.5k. We sat for about 30 minutes and played the game. Tried to get him to sell it to me for $27.9k straight up. He came back with $30.5k then $30.1k. I threw out $28.5k then $28.9k. He was at $29.5k. Straight told him to meet me at $29.1k or that was it.
Handshakes.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I got a great deal on a bad arse car. Only 9k miles and a year old. A new 2018 would have cost well over 10k more.

Glad you got the car, but are you talking about modifications they added but didn't include in the original price?
Anyway, congrats on the new ride!

Yes, and they pulled that off quickly. It was $998 but covered a lifetime warranty for window tint, nitrogen in tires, and a protection they do for the paint near door handles to prevent scratches. He was almost immediately willing to eat that $998 in order to make it look like he was willing to negotiate. We gave him a hard time about it. I asked him to come down another thousand and he actually said "$1,000 is a lot of money" then was answered with, "Okay then why are you adding that extra $1,000?".
