Should have come South to NC and Swamp Lejuene. They don't play games down there about saluting. Norfolk was not my stomping grounds and I hated going up there for anything (even though I was born there...my Dad was a boatswain mate back in Vietnam...and my Mom cried when I choose the Marine Scholly over the Navy because she thought Jarheads were Neanderthals....and yes they can be but they are great when they are on your side)

I got see Australia, seriously overrated. The stories about the women are bull shite.

Got the Navy ex wife scar as well, thank you lord Jesus for letting that boat goat leave my life.

And the chronic lower back pain which turned out to be Ankylosing Spodylitis.

Probably had that bout of alcoholism too.

Still, it was the absolute best thing I've ever done, and I will love the Navy till the day I die. So, fist bump for you my friend, may we meet up in a VFW somewhere in time someday.

Semper Fi my brother. Sounds like a bunch of us vets have some similar stories (except Australia, had some friends deploy there once and they supposedly racked up trophies galore with the female natives.....now I am confused and may have to take it off my "if I am ever single again bucket list").

Semper Fi. Fo sho.

When I got out, I went work for the FAA at MCAS MIRAMAR. I spent 10 years working with you dirty devil dogs. What a top notch operation.

The classiest branch of the military, and it's not even a contest. It got to a point after my first year, I had to sit down all the young Marines I worked with and say...

"Look fellas, my name isn't Sir. Stop calling me that. we're all working on the same shite here."

After that, I got invited to the parties and got to see the Marine life up close. We're all the same bro.

That being said. The USMC is the tits and there's no one way around it. You guys do it right, I'll always appreciate my time with the Marines as a civilian.

That's pretty funny.

Springfield is one of the most sorry arse lame cities I've ever been to in my life.

My extended family lives in St. Louis and I have good friends in K.C. Been to both towns a lot over the years. While I think STL is kind of dumpy and KC is rather "small", the idea of Springfield being dangerous is like saying Columbus is the most dangerous city in GA.

Actually, Columbus GA was recently ranked as the most dangerous city in GA by, you guessed it, Movoto.

Yeah right, about the only way that could happen is if you had access to a tactical nuke!

A friend of mine got roofied in east St. Louis on Halloween several years ago. He attempted to jump out of a 9th floor hotel window in downtown STL later that night, but fortunately he tripped while running toward the open window which allowed another person to tackle him before his momentum carried him outside.

I was standing about 5 feet away and was just a moment away from witnessing a potential gruesome death of a friend.

Beware of east St. Louis.

I'll take my chances walking around Columbus than walking around SW Atlanta any day.

That doesn't take away from the fact that North St. Louis is one of the biggest shite holes you'll ever encounter. I'd rather live in Detroit than North St. Louis.

To all those out there, if you ever have to go to St. Louis, stay away from North St. Louis. Stick with Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Crestwood or any of those immediate areas.

Its definitely the most dangerous city to be a funnel cake or a pan of artisan fudge. Maybe in the entire U.S.

Hey kills. When you were at SMS did they ever tell you about the on campus race riot in the early 70's? Springfield Mo can be a dangerous place.

Yes, I know I am terrified every time I go to Branson or Springfield, especially with my child. Those are 2 cities where I am sure to pack heat when we must travel there.

The hoards of wrinkled blue hairs shuffling along, menacingly, with their seemingly innocent fanny packs (full of pepper spray, no doubt, along with God knows what other horrors) and canes (cleverly disguised weapons) at every restaurant, dinner theater, antique village, candy shop, Christmas store, & Thomas Kincaid gallery has basically given him PTSD. We can't even pass a chartered bus on the highway anymore without him getting flashbacks, and God forbid we pull into a parking lot, any place, where a couple of those bad boys are parked; forget about it - visions of seniors in line for the restrooms, discussing how their Depends are holding up, a few of them shoving cameras at him, trying to explain to the "young fella" how it works 17 times, so that "Howard" can get in the picture with "Myrtle & Babs" & the waitress at Lambert's in front of the "throwed rolls" sign.

Thank God for the Bass Pro down here; we feel so much safer in the Baton Rouge area. Maybe we can just skip Springfield altogether next time we venture up to the mean streets of SW Missouri.
