Yeah, Alpharetta and Marietta are OTP.
It's for some people and not for others. Both side are very set in their ways to say the least.

Off-topic but speaking of Louisville, who was the brilliant visionary that decided to put an elevated I-64 along the Ohio River in downtown Louisville? What a complete waste of valuable land.
FYI: A similar plan was proposed for New Orleans, with an elevated highway running through the CBD and between the French Quarter and the Mississippi River, but the politician behind the proposal was laughed out of town.

Why does Charleston get the nod over Savannah? They are sister cities.
They were sister cities a few decades ago. Charleston has long since blown past Savannah.
But if you want an easy way to highlight the difference that doesn't involve economics, growth, culture, etc try this: would you rather frick a girl that went to CofC or SCAD?

I could live ITP but I prefer the quietness of the burbs.

Me too..I'd live there in a hearbeat..Beautiful location and away from the congestion of Mobile(but you can go over the bay to have some fun downtown in under 20 minutes)
Mod Mobilian is a cool site with all the new stuff going on in Mobile. Hopefully with all the news jobs (direct and indirect) with Airbus, things will continue to improve.

I stopped overnight in Mobile driving to Florida from Texas a few years back and stayed downtown. I was impressed. That city has a ton of potential if it continues to develop

You can't be serious... you're really trying to compare the girl quality of (hold on let me look this up...) RALSTON, SAVANNAH TECH, ARMSTRONG STATE AND SCAD to the College of Charleston? Are you fricking w/ me? Charleston is routinely voted one of the most attractive (people and place) cities in the country.
Savannah is a decent little place but it squandered its opportunity to market itself like Charleston did and in the last 25 years Charleston has lapped it.

It's not really fair to compare any SEC city like BR to a major metro area. There will always be a higher concentration of good looking poon in college towns
Baton Rouge is not a college town.

Nope. Nashville, Lexington, Baton Rouge, Columbia, and Knoxville are definitely not college towns.
You can't really compare the five of them to the small college towns like Athens, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, etc...

Meh. I'd take Savannah over Charleston.

You forgot to mention South University, Mercer School of Medicine, and John Marshall Law School. Have you seen any of the girls from these schools. No I didn't think so. And downtown Savannah is much more conducive for going out than Charleston.

Doesn't take away from what I said though. A city of 5 million vs a city of 200,000+ with an SEC school is going to skew the numbers.
Not to mention the guy proved to be a troll since he said downtown Nashville was meh

WTF? I went to law school. That is NOT the place to find attractive women (look up the phrase "law school hot" if you don't believe me). Nor is med school for that matter (and FWIW Charleston has both Charleston Law and MUSC, downtown, along w/ CofC, all in a five mile radius).

Both Charleston and Savannah 30 years ago were small, historical port cities that outside of shipping relied primarily on tourism to generate economic growth. Charleston, though, has managed to foster a booming economic sector in tech and manufacturing that has poured tons of money into downtown (Blackbaud, Benefitfocus, Boeing, etc). If you haven't been to Charleston in the past 3-5 years then you have no idea how explosive growth here has been... all of Upper King has been revitalized w/ tons of new bars, shops and restaurants. Charleston is now one of the primary cultural centers of the South (if it wasn't before). Annually, Charleston hosts Spoleto, Piccolo Spoleto, Food + Wine festival, Charleston Fashion Week, SEWE, and the list goes on. City leaders have marketed the city well outside of the South, too, so that it's become a fashionable destination city for residents of NYC and other large metro areas. On top of all that, Charleston has one of the best restaurant scenes in the country. 3/5 of the last James Beard Southeast award winners are from here (zero EVER from Savannah) and The Ordinary (new restaurant) was just shortlisted as Best New Restaurant in the country (along w/ one from Chicago, one from NYC, two from SF)... and one of our chefs made the top 5 overall category, too. In 2011, Husk (another local restaurant) was named by Bon Apetit as the Best New Restaurant in the country.
Charleston is growing twice as fast as Savannah, too, currently. And from 2000 to 2011 Charleston added approximately 65,000 new residents. Savannah added a/b 8,000.
