Honestly I agree ... but I know people that wouldn't and have lived in both places ... then again they like being in Murfreesboro, TN as well so I really don't care what they say.

Not really a fan of a few cities on your list. (Mobile, Birmingham, Jackson, Jacksonville).
I would say add Chattanooga...but I am not sure if it would be a great place for a young single person. It is a nice weekend trip though.

Charleston, SC is #1 and it's not up for debate.
Nashville and ATL after that.
I personally love New Orleans but I get why others don't.

I don't understand people that like Birmingham. Bland and generic with very little culture. It just seems like an endless string of chain restaurants and stores.

Mobile is a pretty cool place that could be a really cool place if the downtown area were to be reinvested in. There's a lot of potential for a better bar district in Mobile.

I don't really like any of the major cities in Alabama.
Mobile is the best of the bunch...but I would not really want to live in any of them.

Atlanta is low cost of living and lots of jobs, I just didn't like the chicks there. Baton Rouge has more hotties than ATL and I lived there for 7yrs.

Agreed but there are people out there that might like it who knows and that's why it's listed under the MEH Tier.
Myself I wouldn't really want to be at any of the cities I listed under that classification unless I had to with the exception of Memphis, TN but then that's home and where I'm from so I tend to overlook a lot of the bad.
But if I had to choose one ... it would come from these where I'd go next:
quote:
Houston, TX
Nashville, TN
Charleston, SC
Dallas, TX
Austin, TX
New Orleans, LA
Atlanta, GA
And probably in that order since I'm currently in a process to move to Houston, TX.

I moved to Nashville after I graduated college. Not sure what your motive is for moving, but I didn't want to move back to ATL and see the same people since college and highschool. Turned out to be a good decision. And while I miss certain things about Atlanta, I do like the nightlife here a lot better. Eat a dick, 5 Paces and Churchill's.

A big part of Mobile's problem in terms of downtown is the suburban sprawl. West Mobile to downtown is a pretty long drive. Mayor Dow tried to do some work on the matter, but it never came to fruition. Mobile has a ton of potential, but the spread out nature of the area makes it difficult.

And I still have their phone numbers in my phone. Just saying what people think they'll see in Atlanta vs what's actually there is a disappointment. Remember, I didn't just visit, I lived in Buckhead for 7 years and have covered the ENTIRE SOUTH for 10 years. You're a UGA fan and are more biased. I was just scoping chicks. Many a person has complained about the quality of ladies in Atlanta.

Chattanooga has a very big young people crowd. A lot are hippies, a lot are hipsters, a lot are outdoors enthusiasts. It's very diverse. The North Shore exploded about 10 years ago. Now they are revitalizing Main St and the South Side. Tons of cheap housing that is gonna be in a great area in a year or two.
It's my hometown and I absolutely plan on ending up there. I will say a lot more young married couples seem to be there as opposed to single graduates.

You're right about the distance. I was down there a little over a month ago, and it was about a twenty minute drive to downtown as I recall (my memory might be a bit foggy). It definitely made going to the bars downtown and back a little bit of a pain in the arse.

Nashville is clearly the answer. Atlanta isn't half bad either.
