If so, did it work?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Basically, the doctor draws 60 CCs of blood, spins it a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the plasma, which is where the growth factors are concentrated.

The doctor then injects the plasma into the joint.

Supposedly, many ortho injuries can be healed this way without having surgery.

I recently had done on my shoulder to treat a partial tear in the rotator cuff and labrum.

Wondering if anyone else has had this procedure done and if it worked. So far, too early to tell if it's working for me.

I know of the procedure (it was really, really new when I was a trainer and not cost effective) but haven't known anyone who has actually had it done at this point. It's an interesting concept and obviously anything you can do to avoid surgery while promoting healing sounds like a solid plan. Keep us updated, please. I'm interested in hearing how it goes.

The company I work for used to do it for topical wounds (like diabetic foot wounds). It worked great. They mixed it with thrombin and copper peptides to form a gel and applied it topically... Saved many a foot from being amputated.

Only recently heard of it being used on orthopedic injuries and decided to try it.

Will update once I have an idea if it's working or not.

I'm in medical device sales and we sell a PRP.. Seems to work, obviously I've never had it done on myself and since it's usually done In a clinical setting I never even see it go down. It's fairly new like you said and the only times I'm ever asked about it is usually by younger or more Forward thinking surgeons

Swollen Achilles' tendon, podiatrist wanted to try it , workers comp paid for it . Injected and put a boot on for 8 weeks. Much better . Achilles was partial tear according to MRI. Don't know if it was boot or shot that helped the most .?
