Not an "American Restaurant"...but after a week of eating native in Beijing...my buddy and I threw down at an Outback Steakhouse. No telling how bad it was for me...but I was freakin' starving for something that I recognized.
I will add that I eat a ton of what we call Chinese food...but, for the most part, the stuff I was eating there had no resemblance to it at all.

I'll tell you what. I always get a McDonalds meal abroad because I love how different (and how much better) it is.

Yeah. all the time. When I am in Asia, I will work to find a Hard Rock Cafe in HK, or Shanghai or Japan, etc. Sometimes you just gotta eat a burger and only so much asian food you can eat breakfast lunch and dinner.
Went to an american restaurant in Paris once that was a take off on a 50's style diner. Was really excellent. We were surprised.

What kind of work did you find over there? Did you learn the language beforehand or have you just picked it up over two years?

When I actually had a real job, I was a engineer for NEC. I travel to Japan a lot. There was an American restaurant there called
Break Fast house. (Yes it was spaced out)
The best thing on the menu was
Pain Cakes
I promise they were good but spelled wrong. For 10 years

Engrish is a very real, and persistent thing in Asian countries. And very hilarious.
