You are right, I have never known an addict... Because there is no such thing. I have known a lot of fat, lazy or pathetic people, that use addiction as an excuse though.

I've known a lot of addicts. Most of them very wealthy. Withdraw symptoms are a bitch. I'm glad I've been self aware enough to know which substances could potential screw me up (except maybe weed, but those problems are because of bureaucratic bs, not that substance itself).
Now, I think it's great when someone realizes their problem, and fixes their life accordingly. I'm glad they are proud that they have become strong enough to avoid it. I only have a problem if they try to judge me and tell me how to live my life, just because they couldn't handle their shite.

I never tell anybody what or what not to do unless asked, but I assure you I could handle all the shite I did. I just couldn't quit when I wanted to and I sincerely hope you never experience that.

There is a difference between abuse and addiction. Not everyone who abuses substances to cope with life is addicted, but many are.

I guess you don't understand what "handle their shite" means in the modern vernacular. It didn't just mean being able to take it with dying, but also stopping at some point, do your job well, and not having it have an effect on your relationships with friends. It's all connected.
And I agree that I never want to experience heavy addiction. I stay away from the Hard stuff, and anything else physically addicting because alcohol. But anything that causes joy can be an mentally addicting behavior.

Wow stellar answer bro... Please tell me more.

Well 1st off I didn't get fat and lazy til I got clean so that debunks one of your points, the fact that I physically needed the dope to function kinda refutes your argument as well, but you already know it all and there really is no point arguing with you because closed minded people like yourself don't hear or believe facts.
That a little better?

I've been clean off crack for a little bit over 6 years now and nothing on earth makes me more sick then the I have to tell everyone about my sobriety guy. You can start a conversation and talk about the weather and within 5 mins somehow he will end up telling you about their sobriety.
What's even worse, especially the hard core NA/AA people they believe it or not look down on "outsiders" and only do things as cliques. They only hang out with each other, only do functions with eah other, only go out to eat with each other, etc. They turn their nose up at everyone else. This was the driving force for me leaving NA/AA
In my experience, people like that have really nothing else going on in their lives and this is how they make themselves feel important.
I mean I drink, not often but I do, but it's not really anyone's business that I'm clean today. That was my own personal battle. I'm not gonna give the whole NA bit when i'm out at a party and someone's smoking some weed. shite i'll probalby hit it myself lol
and explaining to a person who is not an addict that addiction is as simple as being weak minded is akin to middle class suburban types thumbing their nose at urbuan people for not having the will to "overcome their environment and make something of themselves like they did" it's futile and pointless

Maybe we can merge this thread with the coffee thread.

I don't shove my sobriety down anybody's throat, yeah I hang out with other people in AA but they aren't the only people I hang out with. I still do things with some of my friends who still use I just don't let myself get into a situation where I feel uncomfortable. The only reason I talk about my sobriety is to help others or answer sincere questions about addiction.

I don't shove it down anyone's throat or brag about it. Its relevant to discuss at times though.
If you can handle booze/drugs without the negative consequence of addiction, more power to you.

There is a huge difference in just not drinking anymore and being sober.
This is the source of the OP's confusion. The concept of sobriety is difficult to understand without personal experience.

Haha never did I say that people who claim to be addicts are all fat and lazy, I just meant a lot of people who claim to be addicted to food are though... And I know that at some point you need it to function, but YOU got yourself there, you got yourself to the point where you needed it. That doesn't mean you have an addiction, it means that you dont have enough willpower to stop yourself from using. It was your fault, quit trying to pass it off on genetics or whatever other bs yu want to say.

Don't worry, they won't. And thanks, I will have a good one because I don't make excuses for my weakness, I deal with them and make them better... If you ever need some advice, just ask for it. I'm very highly qualified.
