Any Fast Typists Around Here?

I am stuck around 42wpm for five minute tests, but I’ve been stuck around this range for a while. Some words and sentences seem to flow easy, but then there are some that brakes my typing flow to a screeching halt.
I also have fat fingers and my fingers don’t comfortably fit on the home row. My fingers moreso hovers over and around the home row. Next semester I take advanced keyboarding and I don’t know if I’m making it to 60wpm.
TLDR: should I just quit and apply for a job at McDonalds?

I'm not even sure if they still exist, but if you can find chat rooms, that will help. I used to be nearly 90 words per minute.

To be fair, a lot of what he was typing that quickly consisted primarily of the words "baw, bro, bruh," and "breh."

I’m not a fast typist, but I’m not really a slow typist either. I guess you could call me a halfass typist.

If you think your fingers are fat now, they’ll get fatter working at Micky Ds

I can burn about 36 words a minute if they all dont have to be spelled correctly.

somewhere between 60 and 65 per minute...Depending on what I am typing and the complexity of the words. If it is pretty easy then I might hit 70 for a brief period.
Now ask me if those numbers allow for mistakes. I do a lot of backspacing.
I also notice that as I have gotten older I tend to leave out simple words like "of" when typing.

They’re either fat or uncoordinated. I cannot seem to get better dexterity in my smaller fingers.

That is me now and I’m only 33.
I think it’s just we are thinking ahead of our fingers. 65 is solid af.
When I do 50 I am in a groove and I feel like I’m 75. I don’t know if my keyboard is just loud, but if you heard my typing you’d think I was doing 90 WPM.

42WPM? Are you serious? Woof.
Buy a different keyboard, even if you have a laptop. The lack of travel and feedback on most laptops, and some keyboards can make it really difficult to flow. Microsoft makes some great ergo keyboards, but they don't have a lot of key travel. Also, you can try a mechanical keyboard which I find better for vienna sausage fingers like this: Glorious Gaming Keyboard
Don't take a keyboarding class, go with the OG, Mavis Beacon.
The only thing that causes me to slow down is numbers and having to touch a mouse. I don't think at all about the act of typing otherwise. It just happens, but I've also been on a keyboard for over 30 years.

I got one and like it, however I believe the keys are too stiff and the factory keyboards more of a fit for speed typing. I’m looking into the others. Thanks.
Edit: That gaming keyboard isn’t it.

You can force the colors to not rotate and be consistent. A backlit keyboard can be useful.
Look for any brand that uses Cherry MX switches on keys, and you'll find a lot of brands. Mechanical switches offer more space between keys.

Read the title too fast and was wondering...why are they asking about fat typists?

Posted on 2/20/23 at 3:10 pm to jangalang
Get an ergonomic keyboard. I type faster on those.

Probably because most on here are fat is my guess.
For those not old enough to remember manual typewriters if you typed too fast the keys would get stuck in a mess when they mashed together. As for me, I type somewhere between 150 baud and 300 baud (jump up and show your age if you get the reference).

I started at 14.4 bps on an OS/2 Warp system before Windows 3.1 came out.
