- This did not happen at the Joint Security Area where the last one happened, rather at a "undisclosed point on the northwestern portion of the inter-Korean border"
- Oh is the second defector in roughly a month and the fourth this year
- Oh is currently being treated in a South Korean hospital
- Incident was followed by 20 "warning shots" by ROK Soliders toward advancing DPRK Soldiers
- Two North Koreans also defected by boat in an unrelated incident
