Well most countries still use .30 machine guns don't they? They just aren't made to be so portable?
The most used are AK47s and what I sold the most as a Class III salesman.
I know what I saw, I know that the BAR was phased out (for good reason) and I know that you have significant trouble admitting that you're wrong so we're just going to have to bump glasses and move onto other targets.

the police had to be prepared for all possibilities.
And this is the most important part. Police have to prepare for anything and everything.
Domestic and foreign terrorists, riots, bank robberies, school shootings, random crazies who will kill police officers just for being police officers.
I'll say it again: The American public has access to more firepower than ever regarding purchasing power and hardware. Cops have to have the same thing or we'll be Wild Westing it or have another North Hollywood Shootout where cops don't have the same firepower and two guys can hold an entire precinct at bay.

Don't get so testy. I already made my only point about people are the same as they ever were. As far as the rest I DGAS if LEO has assault rifles and bullet proof jackets.

I'm not even remotely testy, I can just see being wrong is very difficult for you to cope with.

Yep, your strawmen destroyed my logic.

Yes and no. Doraville, GA doesn't need an AV.

Maybe you can convince me St. Louis needs a Bearcat. Maybe. But little tiny towns are arming up with this stuff.

I think you're wrong. We've got immense firepower and people hell bent on destruction don't care what the cops have in response. Most of the incidences of mass murder in the US were by people who were willing to die, or wanted to die.
My old college psychology professor said once that he didn't know why more people don't commit more heinous acts against mankind. I agree and I don't think it's because suicidal people fear police firepower. There are other aspects of society besides the proliferation of firearms, drugs, the police response....that keep people from crossing the line.

As far as drones go, these guys are the hottest things in RC right now and they're functionally the same as many of the LE 'drones' getting people all upset.
They're practically twins!

Can't help with the MRAP since they aren't for sale but pretty sure you can do much of the same thing with a Brinks armored car.
Um, no. A Brinks armored truck isn't in the same atmosphere as most MRAPs unless they've recently spent millions of dollars to upgrade their fleet.

Thank the homeland security grant structure.

I don't know what the hell we are even talking about anymore. I'm gonna go illegally exercise my second amendment rights.

Maybe you can convince me a regular citizen needs a rifle with a 100 round drum magazine. Maybe.
We never ask these questions when normal citizens possess articles that can produce terrible consequences.
When police want to feel safe, however, we tend to try and take their safety away.
That is a very useful vehicle for recovering bodies and applying first aid to those who are pinned, and that a city has a small population does not make it impervious to violent criminal activity. Newtown has 27,000 people and that didn't stop someone from going on a rampage.
Similarly, we're still waiting for a suicide assault from Muslim extremists. If two guys in Boston could do all that damage, imagine what five terrorists could do.
I don't see anything terrifying about them purchasing a trauma-proof vehicle.

Terrorism isn't about the attacks. It's about how those attacks ingrain themselves into our culture. Well done, Al Queda. Well done.

While true, it's a mutual benefit of having a militarized vehicle ready to deploy rather than not having one at all. If a police officer was shot by let's just say a random lunatic holed up in a house, they could use that piece of equipment to move behind and render aid to an otherwise incapacitated team member.
If that's a bad thing I don't want to be good.

The problem with your top graph -- and I know I'm not disagreeing with you, just for the record -- is that it's a segment of the whole. The drop (and beginning of the rise) looks precipitous, but it's dropping from one very large number to a second very large number. It's just a pet peeve of mine, seeing these graphs that don't cover the min/max and thus look deceptively severe. If it started at 0, we'd get a better perspective.

Agreed. However, I was leaving to go on my lunch break and grabbed the first graph(s) I found. I was hungry.

Well, that's okay, then. I once bought a case of honey-roasted sunflower seeds on-line because I was hungry and not paying close attention to what I was clicking.

And POOF there went your credibility.
You know damned well your local police department is not flying a Reaper, Predator, or any other full sized UAV. Or, if you didn't know and think that's the case then you should probably find news sources other than infowars.
Here are actual LE drones (even use ofthe word DRONE irks me. They're RC models with cameras).
I've got a foam RC Easystar (a beginner airplane) with a camera for taking aerial photos and video. I guess I'm a drone operator in your book.

They don't produce. People do.
