Bingo. A bunch of law enforcement laymen around this area and nothing to say after that.
They are rioting, they're throwing bottles at police officers and being asked to disperse.
Failure to disperse and fight against police officers while concurrent looting is happening is called...
A riot. :)
But, no, all police officers are bad and because they utilize military garb and tactics it must mean that the American government is looking to put you into reeducation camps very soon.
It's bizarre reading this thread.

tac gear helps stomp on the rights of blacks better than riot gear.

fwiw I have no problem with the cops shooting the looters in the street. any looting should be shot on sight.

ach man was shot and penetrated by at least ten bullets, yet both were able to continue shooting. The ineffectiveness of the standard police patrol weaponry in penetrating the robbers' body armor led to a trend in the United States toward arming selected police patrol officers with semi-automatic 5.56 mm AR-15 type rifles.[14]

i don't care if you buy it or not. it is the case.

I agree. The thing is, that doesn't accurately describe last night.
So did the potential rioter text the chief and let him know what their level of intensity will be tonight. I guess they show up in patrol gear and if the rioters are too many or too intense they ask them to wait 30 minutes so they can go gear up?

I agree but that's a whole separate issue. I wish we would pay cops more because then I think you'd have more educated people signing up to be cops.
It is an issue because no matter what you say you wish would happen, the officers out their are getting paid shite and if I got asked to put myself in harms way, leave potential protection at home, for shite pay and little thanks then I am going home and not out on the streets.

A lot of larger agencies send their swat and tac guys to some of the same camps/shoothouses in MS and AR that Tier 1s go through. There's a reason for that.

Can't blame them. Military tactics are easily acquired these days by dudes who deployed and didn't reenlist. I've met some of them personally.
It's not that the police force is getting militarized, it's the American public in general.

I'm torn on this topic. I think that my dislike of cops eclipses my dislike of minorities... so I'm with the black folk on this one.

When Andy Griffin patrolled the streets of Mayberry he didn't need body armor and high powered weapons.
Those days are over. Folks aren't nice any longer.
Most people forget or don't believe that one of the greatest aspects of our country is also one it's biggest weaknesses.

The North Hollywood shootout has determined that this is a lie.

The two well-armored men had fired approximately 1,100 rounds, while approximately 650 rounds were fired by police.[2]
These two situations aren't even remotely comparable.
Unless he too fired off, with police, over 1,500 rounds.

Can you show me where John Q. Taxpayer is buying up MRAPs and drones?
Edit: meant to comment on the op earlier...thanks for posting. I didn't agree with all of it, but the author of the piece brought up some really good points.

Civilian drones have existed for a while, and civilians own tanks...
If you're speaking for every person, the arrival of military tactics and assault weapons are pretty standard issue at this time. I used to work at a Class III firearms dealership and we sold more AK47s and cheap ARs than anything else.

Yeah that comment is especially bizarre.
I'm not saying that people didn't commit crime before, but with a larger population criminal activity is destined to rise.
Although in these last few years it's started to decline -- I thank the NSA for that.
