So it doesn't have anything to do with it, you're just throwing anecdotes and speculating on numbers. Cool.

I think most who signed the Texas petition were from outside of Texas as well

That's because the rest of the country would like to get rid of Texas.

Generally how these "petitions" work. Most folks are happy with the status quo.

As has been exhibited many times by Puerto Rico in direct conflict of what the United Nations thinks Puerto Ricans should want.

ETA: but congress will keep requiring them to say so until the politicians with the power just get sick of it and force statehood for the electoral votes and congressional numbers.

As long as we can stay in the SEC I'm cool with that. Texas has 10% of the country's GDP and has more exports than California and New York (2nd and 3rd) combined. Much rather not have to share with the socialists in DC.

Texas and Cal both have economies that could make it as an independent, but I don't think either would fare better than they currently are doing.

Well, actually I was wrong because Texas has closer to 17% of all US Exports (California is . It would also currently be the 12th largest economy in the world if it were a country. Thankfully we have the socialists in DC to keep us straight though, we'd be lost without their guidance and taxes.
