Tons of schools in rural areas do this. They have the regular prom - a school event. Then there is another "white prom" held at a country club or something - outside of school.
Also, today I learned Macon is apparently in South Georgia.

You all do realize this didn't occur in Macon, right?
It's ROchelle, GA. It's an hour and a half south of Macon.
fricking cartography, people. C'mon.

Wilcox County gonna Wilcox County.
Seriously though, after living in that area for a few years, most of the people on both sides prefer it that way.

I checked to see if this was an Onion article, no go. This can't still be happening, right?

Also, while this seems racist, I wouldnt be surprised if students of both races suggested and pushed for this.
It is what it is.
It's a social thing not a racist thing. There's plenty of interracial activities throughout the nation but generally people still prefer members of their own race and there's nothing wrong with that.

Is segregation wrong when both parties choose it?

I say no. In fact I applaud it. The kids shouldn't have to hold the one prom together and share the music selections, themes, whatever in the frick else they don't want to share, just so they will fall under the guise of political correctness. I mean, it's not like they are refusing to go to the same school classes or anything. It's a dance. I say good.

SIAP but what in the exact frick does "racially tolerant" mean?
Posted on 4/5/13 at 1:29 pm to sorantable
So, if this was called a party instead of a prom, it wouldve been ok, right?
afterall, society gathers together along racial lines anyway for the most part.
just look at most every Sunday morning church service.

Honestly, if the white and black kids want to throw their own prom then let them. However if a white kid who usually hangs out with black kids, or vice versa wants to go to the other race's prom then they should let em. If they are not allowed in then the kid's motives really are racially based.

So, you disagree with 99.9% of the churches in this country, black and white?

No disrespect but how many black guys are on this site?

Clarification: I don't agree with the anything that promotes only one race to mingle with each other (including black-centric events and organizations like the NAACP in it's current iteration).
I'm a black man married to a white woman, so that colors (pardon the pun) where I stand on race relations.

Whats your stand on BlackPeopleMeet.com? I kinda of thought it was racist.

Hate the concept. Never been to the website. Don't necessarily think it's any more racist than websites promoting meeting asian or russian girls or any more bigoted than sites like ChristianMingle.com or sites of that ilk.
I just think they're all stupid. But hey, it's the internet
ETA: btw, I saw your comment on the other thread the other day. Kudos on the homeschoolage
