Probably, I agree UGA is dominant football fan school in GA, simply because they've had more recent success, due to lower academic stadnards.

Why is this constued as attack on Athens/UGA? When I lived in Aiken SC, coworkers used to go to Buckhead every weekend. So yes I think many young people prefer downtown ATL, and if it wasn't a rigourous academic college, it would be the most popular college in GA.

So you're telling me that in Houston the University of Houston is more popular than Texas A&M or UT? What about in Tampa. Is the University of South Florida more popular over UF or FSU? Or even University of Detroit over Michigan or Michigan State. Is the College of Charleston more popular than Clemson in the city of Charleston?

Its pretty clear you are just arguing to argue.

those colleges are not one of two flagship universiites in their state. GTech is, and obivusly has better athletics programs. You aren't comparing apples to apples.

Speaking of Athletics programs. If GaTech is so popular in ATL why can't they fill up their stadium?

Georgia is literally one of the harder schools to get into in the SEC.

First, I think I conceded UGA is more popular than GTECH right now, and gave a reason for that, it is considered a more challenging school acadmiecally (I think this is probably overstated though).

Second, GA Tech had been down in football for a few years.

Third, this has nothing to do with is it a college town discussion, or do a vast majority of young people prefer an Athens to a Atlanta. I'm skeptical of that, and I think peole growing up in small towns in Georgia actually would like to go to school in ATL for different experience.

nothing to do with standards to play football though. All the SEC schools have lower standards than most ACC schools which accounts for why they are usually better.

I never said UGA is a bad school academically. I could not have gone there when I was young b/c they didn't have engineering so it and I wouldn't care how good their sociology program is in comparsion to oterh colleges.

I would agree UGA / Athens is best small city college in GA but Athens is actually much more built up downtown than tpical college town. It might have more downtown than Mercer.

TO me Statesboro is more of a college town per your definition of one.

Let me step back in for a sec.

Clemson has the lowest standards in the ACC, so do the conference a favor and don't include Clemson when defending academic integrity of the acc.

And FWIW most people who even know what Clemson is generally consider it on par with auburn.

Clemson doesn't have lowest standards and is a top 20 public school per US News.

Florida State, Miami, Lousivlle are below. Few student/parents can afford the private schools in ACC so worthless to compare Clemson to them. UNC is more selective than Clemson simply because it has more national name recognition and lot of rich kids up north like it. Academically I think it is hard to argue that uNC is harder or has better students than engineering schools like VA Tech, NC State and Clemson. UNC is basically a big liberal arts school.

Clemson has great rep in engineering/architecture. Auburn does ok too in that regard. UGA doesn't. LIke the other guy said, it is about the various schools when rankings are applicable.

I don't know much about Miami, but doesn't seem like a prestigious university. Seems like a party beach school.

There are a lot of bad private schools.

It's possible, i'm from a poor humble city named Florence in SC. I grew up amongst the cows and tobacco farms.

You mention how much you love natural landscapes and what not. So FYI UGA has the #1 landscape architecture program in the country.

Bow down to your overlords

Damn, that shite is embarrassing for UGA, Scar, and A&M. Big bro will always be superior in these rankings.

If Rick Perry and his cronies have their way both A&M and Texas are going to plummet off that list as they turn both of us into online diploma mills.

I personally would prefer Athens to Atlanta, or at least when I was younger.

To me, a city with a mall and big box stores your definition.isn't really a college town per the definition of a college town that you are alluding to.

Athens and the university are so intertwined that it can be classified as a college town. Yes, it's bigger than your average college town, but downtown and a lot of local business only exists because of the student population.

A "college town" doesn't have to be a dump that has a college like you seem to think.
