I remember watching live in high school. A terribly sad day in American history.

I was in 2nd grade at Amory Elementary. I still remember where I was sitting when it happened.

In college sitting in my living room watching on tv.

It was a completely open school, and the library was kind of built down into the ground. It was in the center of the school. We were all sitting in the steps leading down to the library watching one of those old tube TVs on a cart.

2nd grade, Jackson Academy-we watched it in the library.

I was in 6th grade. We didn't get to watch it live. Forget why. They told us about it but I didn't see the footage until I got home that afternoon.

Robinson Springs Elementary, Kindergarten.
I can still picture the classroom in my mind and the kids around me sitting there silent. Was the quietest you ever saw a bunch of 5-6 yr olds.
Our teacher let us watch for a few minutes then turned the TV off, gathered us on the story rug and asked if there was anything we needed to say or ask. She did a great job of keeping us all calm.
**No idea how/why I remember all that but I do as if it happened yesterday.

Well, I was listening to a radio show in the car and it was discussed. I had my 13 year old daughter with me and we looked it up and watched YouTube videos and discussed it some. I thought that I would ask here what posters memories were of that day.
I was in the 9th grade and I remember vividly. The female teacher had a link back to someone in my school.
IMO, that was one of the worst American disasters in my lifetime. It is also one of the least talked about nowadays. That was cold war end erra, there was a lot of USA pride in the NASA Space Shuttle / Space Programs. A lot of That pride was lost in the few minutes of the launch and subsequent explosion of Challenger. Very Sad Day

Yeah, it and the Marine barracks bombing in Beiruit are the two national tragedies I remember most from childhood.

As in Amory MS? I went to that school. It was just built when I was moving g on to middle school, if I remember correctly. I spent basically my first 11 years of life in that town. Wasn't born there but moved not long after.

We were in an open area between all of the third grade class rooms at my elementary school. It is, without a doubt, one of the strongest memories I have. I remember the lead up during the preceding year and the excitement of the teachers at my school. I also remember President Reagan's address to the nation afterward:
"We will never forget them, not the last time we saw them this morning as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God,"
