The New Orleans Pelicans plan to sign guard James Nunnally to a two-way contract, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Nunnally has played parts of two NBA seasons with four teams.

Wonder if they've converted Naji to a full contract and opened a 2 way spot?

Well we are either converting Naji or we dropped Magnay.

Converting Naji and giving him a regular contract with some added non-guaranteed years makes a ton of sense to me.

It’s either Naji got converted which he’s earned or Magnay got released to go back to playing in Australia

Beat me to it Bunchie. Yes Marshall has earned a contract for next season.

Feels like every team has their second round or UDFA find on their roster and hoping Naji is that for us.

It would be nice for us to use these two way spots for second round picks. Using those spots for a minor league type situation seems much more productive than using them on journeymen

With the injuries happening, I couldn't see them releasing someone. Thomas' 10 day deal is almost up, so using the rest of the space under the tax to sign Naji to a full deal and getting another 2 way player seems like the most logical thing.

DING DING DING!!!!!!
Since the inception of the two way contract in 2018, this is what we drafted in the 2nd round.
2018 - Tony Carr (one of only 4 players drafted that year to never appear in an NBA game)
2019 - traded away both 2nd round picks
2020 - traded away both 2nd round picks

Can certainly do that next year, but nothing to do this year with 2nd rounders.

Yeah I'm not what is going on here. We drafted Didi in the 2nd round last year and we have an undrafted rookie that is getting playing time and looks solid. Why so much negativity this morning?

How easily i have forgotten about Didi. My bad.

and Didi is one of 3 drafted players from 2019 that hasn't played a single minute in the NBA.
So we drafted 2 of the 7 guys from 2018 and 2019 that hav never played an nba game yet.

So we drafted a 2nd rounder every year to realize they weren't working out and then traded our 2nd rounders and filled our 13th/ 14th roster spots with young 2 way players? What the frick is your point Teddy? How many of those 2nd round picks played 10 NBA minutes instead of 0 only to not play again?

Are you neglecting the fact that we only had that 1 late 2nd rounder in 2018 and then drafted ( 3 ) first rd picks in 2019???? 4 first round picks in 2 years and you are gonna cry cause we traded 2 2nd round picks?

C'mon man, he's playing internationally, it's not like he's stuck in the D-League. Some NBA scouts thought he could have been a first rounder last year.

Also have you taken a look at the 2nd round of that draft? There's like 3 guys who regularly play and most of them don't offer much. This isn't like the NFL draft where you need to hit on some of the non first round pics. In the NBA, you're lucky to get a decent role player in the 2nd round, and its perfectly fine to completely miss.

It can get a bit frustrating when people are so quick to shite on our draft picks but then don't give management any credit for a guy like Naji Marshall.

We are waiving Magnay per Guillory.

Pretty clear that dude wasn't going to be an NBA player.

I also thought the plan was to bring Didi over but with Covid and the shorten season they put that on hold until next season

We will probably never see Didi on the team and that's ok. It means that we hit with our lower picks and have a strong future draft capitol to fill our roster spots.

We should have NAW, Lonzo, Zion, BI, Hayes, Kira, and Josh Hart for a long time. That's 7 players and the next 3-4 will be veterans. I'm pretty sure we have 7 or 8 1st round picks the next 5 years and won't be taking on too many 2nd rounders or development heavy players.

Another reason why bitching about what we do with our 2nd rounders is beyond irrelevant.

Didi is never going to be a player for us, has anyone bothered to look at how the guy is doing these days?

He’s not good. 36% from the field, 22% from three, can’t draw fouls and when he does, is shooting 41%. Average rebounder, average passer.

He’s not getting minutes on this team.

I think we had 3 of them last year. Punted all three for future ones that belong to playoff teams
