I’ll be the first to say I wanted Gakpo gone all year last year. My tune has changed drastically since his World Cup campaign started.

100%
Do not want to see him go in January.
We are just fine with Gakpo and Rio on the left with Barcola and Munoz on the right.

And having an actual defender on the RB instead of Frimpong looks like a difference maker already.
What a strike from Isak. That’s a world class striker getting open and firing it into the back of the net. Need more of that guy.
I think Aaron definitely goes next. He may get pulled. Can't believe he's killed like 100 rabbits, but he needed more than just that lean meat. I like how they, and he, harped on him missing that moose early on, and then show him miss the squirrel. That was good storytelling for a show like this.

Ziga: "half the population prefers this hard, but i'm hoping it's soft" :rotflmao:

Just don't see a scenario where Ziga doesn't win this.
Yeah this looks like it's going to be an awesome end to this show.
Last episode was awesome.

Total Cost of an ELK hunt.

Are you talking about going on public land yourself for archery?

If so, you'll spend a good bit on good gear in the first year.
$100 for light merino shirt.
$150-200 for heavier merino quarter zip
$200 for a good rain coat
$200 for some good pants
$200 for some good lightweight waterproof boots
another $200 in other stuff like gaiters, gloves, headwear, good socks.
$400 for a good pack
$100 for water crap
$100 for food
$200 for a good sleeping bag
$100 for a good sleeping pad or cot
$100-$200 for a good tent (I suggest a tipi tent, not those small arse coffins).

That's just off the top of my head, and the majority of those expenses are just needed the first year, and you may have some of it already. What i just listed is just over $2,000

The tag is almost $1,000
We probably spend $1,000 in gas and 2 nights at a hotel (first night and last night)

Alot of things you think you don't need to spend on but then you get out there and realize it's worth it to spend extra on certain things, like a really good pair of paints that wicks moisture away and more importantly, dries quickly. When you're walking at 5am down a trail there is wet grass all over the place and your legs can get soaked, but a good pair of pants will have it dried out in no time. A good pair of LIGHTWEIGHT boots are important. You would not believe the difference in boots that weight 13 ounces and 20 ounces. At the end of a day where you hiked 8 miles up and down all day, those 20 ounce boots felt like bricks on my feet. Huge difference once i got some nicer lightweight ones.
To me, sleeping is important. I want to be warm, and I want to be as comfortable as i can (for sleeping on a cold arse mountain). I carry a cot and a sleeping pad, and i bring a small pillow, and when i say a pillow, i don't mean the blow up ones, i mean an actual cotton filled pillow. It's small, smaller than the size of my packed sleeping bag, but for me, having a pillow like that makes a huge difference in my sleep. It weighs hardly anything, so the only inconvenience is that it takes up a good bit of space on my pack.

A lot of this stuff you just have to be looking for year round from different places, and you can find good deals on things. Sucks that the camofire website stopped. Just got that $20 headlamp that had been posted here on the OB and it seems awesome, especially for $20.

You're in America sweetie. Suck it up buttercup.

or, you could just not keep anything worth a shite in your car.
If they want to steal my phone charger, then have at it. They could always take the napkins in the center console, or the trash in the back doors that my kids leave. There might be a dollar worth of change somewhere in the console. There's a truck manual in the glove box they can have too.

If you leave valuable shite in your car, locking your door isn't going to stop it from getting stolen.

I"m not locking my door inviting some dumbass to break my window. You're free to look inside my truck all you want in the middle of the night, and if my dog hears you and I come outside it's not going to be a fun night for the dumbass rummaging through my truck.
So Spiderman made almost a trillion dollars huh?

How'd you type that out and think that was even remotely believable? You had a few brain farts today, maybe one of those explosive diarrhea farts.
Somewhat disappointing summer transfer window.
Obviously nice to get Barcola, and I think both CBs we brought in are great additions. Would like to see Arouja at CB and Jacquet at RB.
They’ve got to address the CDM role as well as both fullbacks. Gomez and Bradley can’t be counted on and Frimpong isn’t a RB. Should have gone and gotten DJed Spence. He went to Inter for just 31M.

My Isak bitching worked!

And Gakpo has been our best player
I don’t understand what happened to Isak. He looks terrible and has far the most part the entire time he’s been here. How do you go from being one of the best strikers in the world to mediocre just like that?

I like Munoz, and Gakpo is looking more like he did 2 years ago than last year, which is a great thing.

You see all the bitching online about Wirtz but he should have a goal in each game now, and that would change everything about people’s view of him if he had those goals. I like Wirtz and think he’ll be just fine.

You being upset about Zion's existence has absolutely fricking nothing to do with getting an upgraded center.

I know i wrote a whole bunch of shite, but yes, it does, and it's the point i'm making.
We don't need an upgrade at center.

The only reason YOU thin we need an upgrade at center is to compliment Zion. Under no circumstance should we be roster building around him anymore. He's the problem. Missi is a starting caliber center in the league, and I think he'll continue to get better. I've posted plenty of stats across multiple threads about Missi, DQ and Karlo's defense being better than you think.
WHy do you think Missi isn't good enough to be a good starter? b/c he doesn't shoot 3's? who gives a shite? Maybe the 6'6" fat arse should shoot 3's. It's perfectly normal to have a center who isn't a 3 point threat. It's not normal to have your "best" player not be able to shoot from anywhere other than from under the goal.

A better defense starts with getting rid of the guy who sucks on defense, and who's offense creates fast break opportunities far too often b/c he's either on the ground after a shot or too lazy to get back when he isn't on the ground.

So yeah, this center debate is about Zion, in my opinion.

Timeout. Are you creating a random scenario where we trade Zion and then add that $30mil wing?

did you create a scenario where we presumably trade Poole and add a $30M center? How else are you expecting to get half the guys you listed? Why can't i want a $30M player?
I don't want to give up assets to demote Missi and DQ to the bench and play less minutes, as well as Karlo.
Upgrading Zion puts us in a better position to win more games than adding some 5 who is on some monster contract on a team he doens't currently help win. Jarrett Allen is the only guy on that list i would be interested in, and to be honest, I think Missi can get to Jarrett Allen's level of play. Allen is what we are hoping Missi becomes, and i think that's very realistic

It seems awfully negative of you to not think Missi can improve even more this year, despite being one of the better defensive 5's in the league last year.

The thread is NOT about what you think we should do completely irrelevant to what we are actually planning to do.

Your opinion is that we need a cheap center and a 3rd string wing?

Yep.

a $30+M 3rd string wing.
your reading comprehension is just terrible.

You'd rather a wing get 10 min behind Trey/ Bey instead of getting a C who can play 20+ minutes, have Missi beasting off the bench, and not being fricked if either get hurt?

or, and let's use some common fricking sense here, i'd rather get an all-star caliber wing to play with Trey, while Bey comes off the bench.

Answer this question. What position will DQ primarily play in the NBA?
Are you bringing in a 5 that is taking minutes away from DQ at the 5? Is DQ going to primarily play the 4? if so, why the frick is Zion still on the team?
I don't know how many more stats i need to post for you, but Missi has been and is going to be an elite defensive 5. What we need is a 5 that compliments Missi, meaning he does some of the things that Missi isn't the best at, like having to guard some of the really large 5's in the league like Jokic and Embiid.
I am perfectly fine with DQ/Missi/Karlo and another quality big (like a wendell carter or someone you aren't giving up much of anything for) being our front court for the near future.
If we are going to give up assets, then it should be to go get a top tier wing player.

Yeah because if there's anything we learned the last few years its that having Dyson Daniels, Herb, and a shite center really helped against rim protection.

Dyson and Herb on the court together is really difficult to make work b/c of their terrible offense.

Look at 3 years ago
Top 4 lineups played
CJ/BI/Herb/Zion/JV 116.2 DRtg -1.1 Net
CJ/BI/Herb/Zion/Larry 110.9 DRtg -4.4 Net
CJ/Trey/Herb/Zion/JV 109.1 DRg 1.0 Net
CJ/BI/Herb/Trey/JV 96.4 DRtg +15.7 Net

Crazy how that one lineup without a certain lazy fatass is so good defensively. Crazy how the same thing was seen this past year too.

and the Dyson/Herb/BI/Zion/JV lineup was a +20.7 NetRtg with a 113.9 DRtg
Dyson/Herb/CJ/Trey/Zion had a 101.6 DRtg and a 16.3 Net

I've been saying it for like 5 years now, Zion has to suck it up and play the 5. His fat arse is big enough to body anyone in the league defensively, and when he can do this the mismatch on the offensive side is tremendous.
You see the lineup 3 years ago with Zion at the 5 being very successful, and you saw it this past year as well.

quote:

Yes, a cheap center is what we need haha.

Who's the center for the Celtics, the team that had the 2nd best rim protection in the league last year, and the best the year before? You probably can't even name their 5 last year, and the year before was the uber athletic rim protecting 55 year old Al Holford. You know why their rim protection is good? B/C THEY HAVE GREAT PERIMETER DEFENDERS.

We aren't trading for a Chet, or Wemby, or Gobert, or trotting out a Allen/Mobley front court. But Missi's stats are comparable with any good defensive 5 in the league. We don't need to waste money or assets on someone like Turner, or anyone else you listed b/c Missi is just as good or better than all of them. What we need is a backup 5, not a $30+ million dollar starting 5. You want to upgrade a position and give up assets and pay a high salary, then do it to a wing player.

But per 36 minutes last year he shot 38.3% from 3 on 7.2 attempts and 2.2 blocks.

Did he play 36 minutes per game?
Would he play 36 minutes per game here?

Has to be one of the dumbest meaningless stats in basketball.

His normal stats are just fine to use. 5.4 3PA at 38.3%, and the last 2 years are the only times he's ever shot more than 5 per game in his career.

He's an old 30. The time to get him was 3 years ago.
And I think he's an overrated defender. Just b/c he has a good bit of blocks doesn't make him a good defender.
7' tall, 250lbs, and he's never had a season where he averaged 8 rebounds.

quote:

My thing is he immediately prevents opposing teams from putting their center in the paint for Zion

not really. He isn't a quick shooter at all, and he isn't a huge threat if you run him off the line, which means you can help off of him and still get back to defend him more often than not. Defenders stick to Trey b/c he can shoot quickly and shoot from anywhere, but also b/c if you run him off the line he's going to get to the goal and dunk it. Myles Turner is not KAT. He's not driving to the goal with aggressive strength and finishing.
ANd i'm not saying he woudln't help with spacing, b/c obviously he would, but it's not nearly as much as you'd think it is.

Missi is a better defender than Turner, and I don' think it's a real close discussion, and if we had a guy playing the 4 who would actually defend, and could actually do something on offense other than barreling into the lane for left handed layups, then Missi's lack of 3 point shooting wouldn't be a big deal.
Missi's rim protection was elite last year. He gave up 53.1% on shots from less than 6', which was 10th best in the entire league. Karlo was at 55.1%. Turner was at 59%. There were 24 centers in the league who were better at that than Turner. DQ was at 59.5%.

The whole problem here is Zion. He has to have a 5 who can shoot the 3 at a high clip while also defend at an elite level. Those guys aren't easy to find at all. Missi, Karlo, and DQ are not bad defenders, and there's plenty of stats to back that up. Zion however is not a good defender.

Look at the 4 most played lineups last year

Zion/Bey/Herb/Trey/DQ
Zion/Bey/Fears/Trey/DQ
Fears/Bey/Trey/Herb/DQ
Zion/Murray/Bey/Herb/Trey

DRtg of 1 of those was 107.3. which would be good enough to be 3rd best in the league. Guess which lineup that is?
Those first 2 lineups have a -4.9 and -19.3 NetRtg. That special one had a +11.0 NetRtg.
Zion at the 5 was a good lineup last year. +9.8 NetRtg and a decent 113.6 Drtg.

The 5th most played lineup was
Fears/Bey/Herb/McGowens/DQ
So McGowens took Herb's spot and they went from a +11 to a -17 NetRtg, and a terrible 130.8 Drtg.

The 6th most played lineup was
Zion/Bey/Herb/Trey/Missi
+6.7 NetRtg with a 111.8 Drtg

It's clear that Zion and DQ did not play well together, and it's also clear that DQ is capable of being a good defender where as Zion has yet to ever show the slightest bit of that.

TLDR
Stop trying to find the unicorn center to play with Zion.
Just get rid of Zion and bring in a cheap big body 5 like a Day'Ron Sharpe, and focus on more 3&D wing players. Good rim protection starts with good perimeter defense and good team defense, something Zion is too lazy to be good at.

Not surprised Andrew had to bow out. He had nothing left, so kudos for him on making it as far as he did.

I'd love to know Nero's food storage situation. I think that weir he's got is going to come to an end at some point, but does he have enough beaver and fish saved up to stay out there for some time. We know Ziga has enough food. Can't believe how many hares Aaron has caught. He still needs something outside of that rabbit meat to sustain himself out there though.

Going to be a good last 3 episodes of this season.
