I am reading Ready Player 2 and all of the John Hughes references got me hankering to rewatch Sixteen Candles.
What a great film. Growing up I never appreciated how great this movie is. Its truly an American masterpiece. Man, Anthony Michael Hall was a really great actor for his age. His witty fast talking style was something to watch. He and Molly Ringwald were 15 years old.

Better than Breakfast Club and best overall Brat Pack movie.
Samantha and Ted embody a huge percentage of teenagers that are neither popular nor unpopular, virginal nor experienced, not artsy or athletic or funny or tough enough stand out from their peers, for better or worse. And I think the film celebrates that kind of normalcy while openly admitting that it's also tough to go through it alone.

In Ready Player 2 they address Long Duck Dong as one of the worst stereotypes in history...Frick that dude was HILARIOUS.

Needless to say, my wife having only seen the edited version bit her in the arse when we were watching it with our son (shower scene).

Holy crap. I thought that the first one was pretty bad, in that regard. Even sitting through the Rifftrax version was a chore.

Fun fact: Sam's dream guy was played by Michael Schoeffling, a college wrestler who was Matthew Modine's best friend in another great eighties movie, Vision Quest.

It seems like he could have had a much bigger career after those two films(especially Sixteen Candles).
I think that I read awhile back that he hated the limelight and ended up making furniture for a living(or something like that).

It's weird how things change.
This was considered just funny back then, now it would be censored for weird old relatives creeping on a minor.

So many great Non-PC moments in this movie. Its a fresh air to watch in today's world.

The movie wouldn't be made today. The shower scene is of a topless high schooler in the story. The Asian stereotype wouldn't fly. The harassing Farmer Ted would be lambasted and getting the hot chicken drunk to nail her would be considered rape.

It's funny because it was so bizarre and unthinkably awkward.
No one seriously thinks this was normal behavior for the time period, I hope.
Don't people GET humor anymore??
