For example, how does a 1962 Chevy Impala, with stying heavily influenced by the ‘jet age’ of the US racing to space against the Soviets in the 1950’s, exist exactly the same in a United States that was beaten by the Germans in WW2?

Sometimes I wish I didn’t notice this stuff. Or, the people who do historical movies should sweat those details.

I’m all for historical accuracy, in The Americans I read they would look up not only what shows were on on a specific date but what episode was on that night. In this case it seems you are just looking for something to pick nits.

Well Man in The High Castle isn't "historical". Its an alternate history. IIRC they even pointed out in the first season about how much technology increased in America after the Germans took over.

He is right about the timeline and influences though.

How about another country just took USs place in Cold War.

He makes an interesting observation. But the tricky thing about alternative history is that every thing changes to an extent, so it’s impossible to get every detail or to even know if those details would be radically different. It makes sense to say the car fins were inspired by the jet age and cold war and wouldn’t look like that in a world were the US had lost been invaded by Germany. But then again the Germans were at the fore front on rocket science during WWII, they had V2s, German scientists were heavily involved in the space program so maybe the cars would look similar. But ultimately there’s no way to know exactly what they’d look like
so you have to cut the makers a little slack on stuff like that as long as they don’t have a 1964 car if it’s set in 1962.

I did notice the music was different seems obvious there would not have been rock n roll under Nazis.

Honest to god I love that show but it makes me sick seeing America run by Nazis and the Imperial Japanese . I think the biggest immersion breaker for me is the fact that 10ish years after the war people would just forget that the Nazi's were true evil and comply.

There's a lot dumb in the show. But the space race still happened. It's just Germany beat Japan down so badly it was like Usain Bolt vs a no legged toddler.

They even make a commitment about Japan cruising around it's envoys in luxury liners while the Germans take rockets at will.

Well they wouldn’t know. The true evil of the Nazi’s wasn’t known until after the war

This isn't a historical detail that they got wrong. It is an alternate history show. As in made up history. As in you are saying that they got fictional details wrong. This is you deliberately looking for something to find wrong. The only way that they could solve this problem for you would be to come up with a completely original but still kind of dated design that could plausibly fit the period. In which case you would complain that they got the historical details wrong of not using cars that were actually around in that period. When in reality it is a historical fiction story, and within the context of that story it is perfectly reasonable that some other event inspired the design of that car. Because it's all made up. Because it's fiction.

Yeah, the pledge of allegiance scene from the opening of S2 made me want to vomit.

In this alternative history could not the 62 Chevy design be influenced by the German engineers assigned to GM and also influenced by the German SST which is mentioned in a later episode of MIHC.

Calm down Frances. I’m not looking for stuff, I can’t help but notice it.

My main problem with this show is that it’s tough to even root for the Americans as most of the resistance people are assholes...
